Good people of the Polk world,
I am based in the distant and audiologically challenged port of
Old Sydney Town, AUSTRALIA. I think my quest to find a set
of vintage SDA's here is futile. So here I am considering the virtues
of a set of brand newies. I have found a dealer that can get
me anything in the RTi or LSi series.
What are peoples thoughts and experiences comparing these
two lines? Do either of them stack up to the "glory days" of
the SDA range? I would like something that sounds closest to
the SDA's if someone wants to make a suggestion.
Many thanks,
Alex.

I recently switched from the SDA1C to the LSi9's. The 1C is a very special speaker - you will not find a modern equivalent to SDA series in the current Polk lineup. Having said that the LSi9's are fantastic speakers - in my opinion more articulate that the SDA1C with a little less bass. The soundstage in the 1C's is much larger than the 9's, but when I sit in the sweet spot, I do not miss the 1C's much. I also have the RTi10's. They are great rock and HT speakers - but not as transparent, neutral and accurate as the LSi's. Most people I know who have listened to the LSi15 say they are hard to get the bass setup just right. Many prefer the 9's with a sub. I find that the 9s need no sub for music with the right amp.

Search funtion is your friend..... LSi15 vs SDA1c (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7661&highlight=sda+lsi)
Search for "LSI vs SDA" or "LSI vs RTI" (without the quotes)
You will find quite a few threads on the LSI vs RTI as that has been beat to death, but the link I provided is the best comparo I have seen between the SDA and LSI.
With any of the speakers, you are going to need some good amplification. (better than just an AVR)

Alex, have you considered having a pair of SDA's shipped from another country?

Yep, I'd bet, that even considering the size/weight issues, that one could get a nice clean set of 1Cs or SRS2s shipped(correctly) and still be less than a new set of LSi 15s. And, imo, the SDAs will still edge the 15s out for music. Just my opinion.
