I was reading an old thread started by Polkmaniac (he's crazy!) about the best individuals ever at their prospective positions (instruments.) It occurred to me that one of my favorites, and perhaps the best guitar player is Stanley Jordan. He can play anything. Jazz, blues, rock. I have seen many, many shows of all sizes, and the three times I have have seen Stanley Jordan, it was an out of body experience. I would go as far to say as the first live show I saw was the best live performance ever. This guy is on another planet! One is truly in the prescence of greatness. He can go from a jazzy, Somewhere Over the Rainbow to a jazz inspired Stairway to Heaven that turns into a rockin' finale when he kicks on the distortion pedal. He even played the knobs!
His style of playing on some songs is totally unconventional. When he plays, it is like two people going at the same time. He's playing rhthym and lead on seperate hands due to his unique style. And, he doesn't allow smoking during his shows, so one can actually totally get immersed without the smoke.
As good as he is on cd, live is another world. Just curious if he has any fans out there.
