First, there was the Best Buy/Insignia speaker. Then, it was the Circuit City/Sony speaker. Now comes the J&R/Acoustic Research (AR) speaker blowout....

AR VP26 bookshelf speaker for $70.00/pair shipped (http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=3986018)

I know most will say AR is no longer the company it once was, especially after Audiovox took over when Recoton went belly up. However, this current series was designed before Audiovox gained control of the company. That may be hope.

Here's the product information page on Audiovox (http://www.audiovox.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10001&storeId=10001&productId=13404&langId=-1) for these AR speakers, including owner's manual.

Sounds like a heck of a deal. Almost wish I didn't get the second pair of Monitor 30's / Euro T-20eb's for $80 from Tweeter. Now seems like a rip-off to spend $80 on a $250 MSRP when you can get a $300 pair for $70.

Anyone got experience with this speaker or anything like it? Maybe I'll get a pair for my bro.

Hi! I has a pair of AR15, and they was beautiful constructed and very solid cabinets. They sound a little brighty for my taste and need a lot of power to sound good. If you use to listen at moderated levels they wasn´t so good, medium level and up they has powerful full sound. Mines goes out just because I don´t can listen at high level. If you can, go with it.

Thanks.

I don't know about the passive radiator claims. At the tail end, AR made a couple ported models, but to the best of my knowledge, never a PR.

I think the PR statement is referring to the matching subwoofers for that series, they had a PR1010 and 1212 - one active woofer, one radiator. AC4L was closing them out, they're probably all gone.
