anyone ever heard or used a cerwin vega sub

The saying "You get what you pay for" doesn't hold true under every circumstance. I think it's safe to say that it does in this case however...

if you're looking for alot of loud, boomy bass, then it'll work fine. If you're looking for any articulation or accuracy, I'd look elsewhere.

Had a pair of bookshelves years ago.......best bet it to save up for something of better quality.

One of the Bro's McGowan uses (used?) a CV sub to compliment the bottom most octave of his SDA 1C's in a home theater setup. I'd venture to say some of the older models may be 'decent' for the $, I haven't seen them do anything worth owning (sub wise) in the past decade for sure.

even though im partial with CV's, i would look else were. probably work great for alot of rap music, but not accurate enough for all around pleasure and accuracy......cheap is a true sign of it's lacking something

I have a friend who had both a CV 10" and 15"... both crap, both boomy as hell, both w/ tons of port noise and major lag.

The Canton is a nice little unit at $50 it's a no brainer. Forget the CV as they are not musical at all. Boomy, sloppy, noisy.

come on now....there is so many people who have started out rocking to music to Cerwin Vega's and or another bang for the buck speaker....Really they have not been around for so long without a ton of people buying their product....sure there not the best .....but i have listened to alot worse

Yep, I know we all had to start somewhere. They just are so far removed from what I'm used to now that I get that nauseous feeling everytime I hear them. My best friend has a whole HT set-up with CV's. I convinced him to buy a Polk PSW-650 sub a few years ago and he was blown away by Polk. He's moving soon and he's getting a whole Polk HT system on my rec. So no more listening and vomiting to his HT :p ;)

Man... when it comes to audio and people that try to push Bose and Cerwin Vega on me (I have friends that have both)...

I like to give them a reality check. The bose guy...

None the less, the CV system is very loud.. it sounds horrid.. "flat" - my friend has them eqd like crazy (bout like I have my computer speakers) and they sound decent. Honestly though, Id give about 20 bucks for the speakers and subs.

I like his amp, pretty nice yammer hammer.

Honestly though, the appeal to CV is BIG speakers. Nothing more or less. My friend likes his CVs because they are LOUD and BIG. My system probally goes just as loud, it just dosnt look as big...

I sometimes think any kind of detail in music scares people...

I had 2 CV subs at one time. I bought a 10" - 100 watt open box from BB. It was pretty good actually. The smaller driver was faster than their bigger subs. I did return it because I was having problems with the amp.

A year later, a local electronics store put thier CV subs on clearance. A friend of mine and I each bought the 15" sub. It was huge and my buddy used it as an end table. We watched Armagedon at his place and the bass was really loud, but sloppy and boomy. I took mine home and when played, had something knocking around inside. I opened it up and the port tube had come off. I decided to return it also. I think that some good dacron and some other tweaks would make it sound better but I wanted more. I think I am going to get an SVS eventually.
