Hey all, A friend of mine just purchased a pair of Rti6's used locally for a great price and is looking for surrounds for a 5.1 system. I recommended that he stick with the CSi 3 or 5 for the center and RTi4's for surrounds for better timbre matching. He is thinking about going with the M30's for surrounds to save a little money over the Rti4's I recommended. Anyone else do this with good results? I am thinking that they match the Rti's close enough for surround useage. Thoughts?

I would say that it depends on what his main listening focus is. If multichannel music, then I think it may be a disappointing choice. If movies, probably fine.

I had Monitor RTi8's as mains and Monitor 70's for surrounds (didn't intend them that way, just part of a wayward upgrade path). I was disappointed in the Monitors and they were clearly (audibly) different speakers than the RTIs.

My main focus is multichannel music and the speakers did not match well.

I replaced the RTi8s with RTi10s and put the RTi8s into duty as surrounds.

PERFECT!

BTW, I had a CS2 center, and liked it. Or so I thought until I put in a CSi5. My initial response was "OMG, those voices sound so real!" I also feel that they project sound rearward towards the wall because I can now hear effects coming from behind the TV whereas I could not with the CS2.
