I've been waiting for spasticpitbull to get the pool started this year but he's pretty busy, so I'll get us started this year. It won't cost you a cent and you just might win a prize...or at least bragging rights for a year.
Click on the link below and join in the fun.
http://surrealistic.com/cgi-bin/fball?createlogin+16
The group name is ClubPolk
The password is Polk
The rules are simple...you must be a member of this forum to join.
***EDIT***
Please use your Club Polk Screen Name so I can verify that you are in fact a member here.
Trash talking is expected.
What's in it for you? Well, there's no pot-o-gold, but I'll step up and hand out a few goodies to the top three at the end of the season. The prizes are TBD and will be announced at the end of the season. You'll also be entitled to a cool sig line at the end of the season.:D
Just like the SuperBowl...You can't win it if you aint in it!!

Yeah, that's why I didn't play last year -- no interest when I'm not excited about my team. They said the same about this year, until they spanked the ever living hell out of the Falcons. All of a sudden people are saying they're the real deal. Well, I'll believe it when I see it. Would be a sweet exit for Favre if he could at least go out (maybe?) in style by making the playoffs.
I still live in the most historic state for football, and there is nothing like it in the NFL.

Or more appropriately, throwing a pick into triple coverage of his back foot or laying down so a DE can get a sack bonus.

Go Pats! Deion Branch will not miss a game, and he's going to pile up yards and catches this year. When HoF players come out of retirement to win a ring with your team, yeah, you're THAT GOOD.

Yeah, Seau will be a nice addition in occasional games, but if he breaks 8 games this season i'll be amazed. Monty Beisel's been improving, he's still young, he'll get better. Plus with Bruschi back in full fource, and then some really improving corners (I'm excited about Ellis Hobbs) and Rodney Harrison back in teh backfield.... the D is going to be MUCH improved this year.
Oh God I can't wait.

Should have never let McGinest get away...
Pats are strong at TE, QB and DL. LB MIGHT be good, not sold on them due to performance and age/injuries.
DB's are looking pretty sad and the WR situation without Givens is deplorable.
For my team, QB's look decent (top 10 level, not top 3). RB stable looks better than it has since Portis left. I can't remember when we had to cut a decent WR. TE is looking up. Only big question marks:
Will Jake will continue to improve?
How well will the D-line hold up/perform (Big???)

...but it wasn't worth sinking the money into Mcginest either. Cleveland needs him a whole lot more than a team who can put Seymour, Wilfork, Warren, and Green, out there on the DL.
OL- better, Matt Light's healthy, Mankins 2nd year means continued progression.
LB- previously our area of greatest strength, a little softer this year, but Banta-Cain has had a good camp, Bruschi will be fine, and Seau will help a bit.
DB's will be better than last year. The young guys gained some valuable experience. We have Harrisson back, and Artrell Hawkins will contribute some.
WR will only be a problem without Branch. He'll be in the lineup Week 1 though, we all know that. So Branch, Caldwell, Chad Jackson, Troy Brown, with Graham and Watson doesn't look so bad, does it? Besides, with a healthy Dillon, Maroney, and those TE's, they're not going throw to the WRs as much as they have in recent years. Plus, the improved ground game is going to take a lot of pressure off the defense.
Yeah, I'm a homer. And yeah, I'm fired up!

Oh ya, preseason means so much. We went 0-4 last year, and still were 10-6. With LJ getting 1750 yards. Don't count the boy out, or you'll be sad you did.
And I'll be interested to see the Donkeys without their OC. Could be a bubble year for them... let's hope it doesn't all burst at once, or at least until week 2! :D

10-6 and a fantasy stud didn't get you to the playoffs. They'd better learn to play some defense. LJ can go for 2000 + 30 TD's, but even that's not enough when you give up 35 pts/game.

Gee, by your logic the chefs will be lucky to get 30 yds/game rushing: Lost your OC, two starting tackles, and your all-pro fullback. Now you have a stiff LT who should have stayed retired and some other scrubs/ancient players and you think the Broncos offense is in trouble? How's Shields injury?
Also, last preseason you at least looked capable of running the rock...
BTW: Shanahan is/was/always will be the OC as long as he's head coach. The Broncos have changed OC's like they have with their running backs and with the same results year in and year out

Let's see, the Broncos can't beat Indy (and probably P-burg), P-burg and Indy can't beat the Patsies and the Patsies can't beat the Broncos. Lovely-- Chicken and the egg for the AFC representative...
To save you patsy fans the effort, Bellichek is 1-5 with the patriots against the Broncos. The 1 win was against the third string QB that wasn't even on the team 10 days earlier and you still needed to intentionally take a safety to win on a last second score. That was, IIRC, the only loss to the Patriots since '94

You're absolutely right. Those are the 4 best in the AFC. The Bengals are the 5th, but unproven in the playoffs. The rest of the AFC will beat the crap out of each other, scrambling for the 6th spot, while the class of the conference plays the regular season for seeding and home field.

As it's totally foolish to really think any of us can pick a playoff team before the season starts, let me take my shot at it as well ;)
I think Pittsburg will struggle in all honesty. Pats might make the playoffs, but we'll see how the season progresses. Denver is always tough. If their rookie can play ball (Who can't behind a line that cheats?) and their D stays tough, should be a lock. Indy is always there, but will choke again this year. I see a couple teams changing it up big time, like Miami and KC.. here's my take:
AFC:
EAST - Miami surprises us all
WEST - Denver, yawn
NORTH - Bungols.
SOUTH - Colts
WC: KC, PATS
NFC: (Not that anybody cares about the NFC ;))
EAST - 'Skins
WEST - Cards
NORTH - Bears
SOUTH - Pathers
WC: Seahawks, and Cowboys
:) I'll make SB predictions after the season actually starts.
But here's to KC kickin' Denver from winning the west!!! :D :D :D

Thanks for the lesson dad. We didn't give up 35 pts/game last year, and we have only gotten younger and faster on D this year. Watch out, we may surprise the league yet that our boys come to play ball. I think we'll be a top 15 D this year. That should be plenty of push to get into the playoffs. Our O will still be a top 5 team. Let's just say, I wouldn't want to head into Arrowhead in December this year. I think we'll start off rocky, but the young guys will gell by midseason and we'll finish smoking hot headed into the playoffs. Can I hear, Pittsburg last year anyone?
Let the games begin!!!

I'm sorry, that just drives me nuts;) I'm not sure why, but pittsburgh is I believe the only burg that has an h.

And why is that? so you can think in your head that KC actually has a chance to beat pittsburgh in october? I don't think so.

And why is that? so you can think in your head that KC actually has a chance to beat pittsburgh in october? I don't think so.
Actually, if you look at the Chiefs the past few seasons, we have dethroned every SB champ we've played. Pats, Pats, and I can't remember the other one, but we play them at home, and we will beat Pittsburgh in Oct.
Why don't you think so? Our O will be rolling and unstoppable, our special teams will rock as usual and even more so that Culquitt is for real and booming, and our D will be formidable. Unstoppable on D? Not likely, but punishing hits, solid tackles and good ball skills will put us in a good spot D wise. Allen off the right, and Tamba off the left we'll have two excellent pass-rushers. Arguably one of the best set of LB's in the league and our corners are top notch as well. Safety's are older, but our two young guys we drafted could / will start this season, they are doing that well.
I guess only once the season starts, will we really find out how bad or good we'll be. :)

Lol... Miami wins the East?
They'll need to be 11-5, so let's look at the schedule.
Thu 9/7 at Pittsburgh 8:30 pm Loss
Sun 9/17 Buffalo 1:00 pm Win
Sun 9/24 Tennessee 1:00 pm Win
Sun 10/1 at Houston 1:00 pm Win (doubt it, but for sake of arguement)
Sun 10/8 at New England 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 10/15 at NY Jets 4:15 pm Loss (but they'll beat the J-E-T-S at home)
Sun 10/22 Green Bay 1:00 pm Win (maybe)
bye
Sun 11/5 at Chicago 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 11/12 Kansas City 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 11/19 Minnesota 1:00 pm Win
Thu 11/23 at Detroit 12:30 pm Win (another gift W)
Sun 12/3 Jacksonville 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 12/10 New England 1:00 pm Loss (we always beat the fish in Dec)
Sun 12/17 at Buffalo 1:00 pm Win
Mon 12/25 NY Jets 8:30 pm Win
Sun 12/31 at Indianapolis 1:00 pm Loss
Looks like 8-8 to me, with some gifts along the way. Will 8-8 win the division?

Let's take a rational look at the Pats schedule for a preview of their march to the Division title...
Sun 9/10 Buffalo 1:00 pm Win
Sun 9/17 at NY Jets 4:15 pm Win
Sun 9/24 Denver 8:15 pm Win (could go either way, but they'll split these 2)
Sun 10/1 at Cincinnati 4:15 pm Loss
Sun 10/8 Miami 1:00 pm Win
bye
Sun 10/22 at Buffalo 1:00 pm Win
Mon 10/30 at Minnesota 8:30 pm Win
Sun 11/5 Indianapolis 8:15 pm Loss (maybe)
Sun 11/12 NY Jets 1:00 pm Win
Sun 11/19 at Green Bay 1:00 pm Win
Sun 11/26 Chicago 1:00 pm Loss (to be fair, gave them the W over Denver)
Sun 12/3 Detroit 1:00 pm Win
Sun 12/10 at Miami 1:00 pm Win
Sun 12/17 Houston 1:00 pm Win
Sun 12/24 at Jacksonville 1:00 pm Loss (probably not, since Garrard will be playing, but what the hell)
Sun 12/31 at Tennessee 1:00 pm Win
I'll concede that 12-4 may be unrealistic. Take losses against both Denver and Cinci to make it 11-5. Maybe they drop another game that they should win and don't win any tough games, they're still 10-6.

My guesses for you but if Brady or Seymour go down, 11-5 could quickly become 9-7 or worse.
Miami:
1 Thu, Sep 7 at Pittsburgh Loss
2 Sun, Sep 17 Buffalo Win
3 Sun, Sep 24 Tennessee Win
4 Sun, Oct 1 at Houston Win
5 Sun, Oct 8 at New England Loss
6 Sun, Oct 15 at NY Jets Win
7 Sun, Oct 22 Green Bay Win
8 BYE WEEK
9 Sun, Nov 5 at Chicago Loss

12 Thu, Nov 23 at Detroit Win
13 Sun, Dec 3 Jacksonville Win
14 Sun, Dec 10 New England Win
15 Sun, Dec 17 at Buffalo Win
16 Mon, Dec 25 NY Jets Win
17 Sun, Dec 31 at Indianapolis Loss
12-4 Not good for Pats fan...
To be fair:
1 Sun, Sep 10 at St. Louis Win
2 Sun, Sep 17 Kansas City Win
3 Sun, Sep 24 at New England Win
4 BYE WEEK
5 Mon, Oct 9 Baltimore Loss (always play down to the Ravens level)
6 Sun, Oct 15 Oakland Win
7 Sun, Oct 22 at Cleveland Win
8 Sun, Oct 29 Indianapolis Win (Always play them well in regular season, not playing in Indy)
9 Sun, Nov 5 at Pittsburgh Win (revenge game)

12 Thu, Nov 23 at Kansas City Loss

Hahaha, I love the preseason predictions of every game.
Also, "if Brady or Seymour" goes down? If Brady goes down, the team is f*$&ed. But the same can be said of most teams in the league - you lose your franchise QB, you're in trouble. That's an unnecessary caveat.

That's a good reminder for everyone, Demi - make ALL of your picks a long time in advance, and then change them if you want when it gets closer to the deadline. That way if you forget to set your picks one week, at least you have SOMETHING, it's better than zero.

I would be lying if I said there wasn't a small part of me that would like to see Schaub in a couple of games -- a lot of Falcon fans wouldn't readily admit to it, but it's true.
Vick needs to take it to the next level this year, and pining over Finneran's not the way to start.

Zombie, I was going to add my two cents on the Falcons and you were the last post. I'm a life long Falcons fan, but I have one leg and half a torso hanging off the Vick wagon. I think most Falcons fans would admit they like their chances with Schaub.
This year is it for him (Vick) as far as I am concerned. Throw a decent pass or start catching them. How 'bout returning kicks....Schaub is the real deal and could start for most teams. Several clubs inquired about him in the offseason, but the Falcons smartly kept him. I thought for sure he'd be gone. The guy broke all the ACC passing records (ain't exactly saying anything. SEC as you all know is the real deal, but I digress..)
Falcons picked up the Broncos Ashley Lelie by trading T.J. Duckett, so Warrick is the main man. Lelie is a good receiver. Can't be worse than Peerless was....
You can't stop Algae, you can only hope to contain him. Freak! Finneran was the great white hope on third down... Money in the bank. Pass rush should be awesome with my Gamecock John Abraham from the Jets now a Dirty Bird. Can't wait to watch on my 40"!:D

I would be lying if I said there wasn't a small part of me that would like to see Schaub in a couple of games -- a lot of Falcon fans wouldn't readily admit to it, but it's true.
Vick needs to take it to the next level this year, and pining over Finneran's not the way to start.
Yup, and a lot of Denver fans wouldn't mind Plummer going down too much either.

Lol... Miami wins the East?
They'll need to be 11-5, so let's look at the schedule.
Thu 9/7 at Pittsburgh 8:30 pm Loss
Sun 9/17 Buffalo 1:00 pm Win
Sun 9/24 Tennessee 1:00 pm Win
Sun 10/1 at Houston 1:00 pm Win (doubt it, but for sake of arguement)
Sun 10/8 at New England 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 10/15 at NY Jets 4:15 pm Loss (but they'll beat the J-E-T-S at home)
Sun 10/22 Green Bay 1:00 pm Win (maybe)
bye
Sun 11/5 at Chicago 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 11/12 Kansas City 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 11/19 Minnesota 1:00 pm Win
Thu 11/23 at Detroit 12:30 pm Win (another gift W)
Sun 12/3 Jacksonville 1:00 pm Loss
Sun 12/10 New England 1:00 pm Loss (we always beat the fish in Dec)
Sun 12/17 at Buffalo 1:00 pm Win
Mon 12/25 NY Jets 8:30 pm Win
Sun 12/31 at Indianapolis 1:00 pm Loss
Looks like 8-8 to me, with some gifts along the way. Will 8-8 win the division?
Whatever dude. It's really pointless to debate if the 'Fin's will win or lose a game before the season starts. But I do think they'll be 10-6 when it's all said in done. I also think the Pats will have a down year. I think Denver will be competitive, but I also believe KC will be 8-0 at home. If we can win 3 outta 8 on the road, we'll be 11-5 and could take the division.
We'll see. This is why I love football!!! :)

From Bobman: "Yeah, that's why I didn't play last year -- no interest when I'm not excited about my team. They said the same about this year, until they spanked the ever living hell out of the Falcons. All of a sudden people are saying they're the real deal. Well, I'll believe it when I see it. Would be a sweet exit for Favre if he could at least go out (maybe?) in style by making the playoffs.
I still live in the most historic state for football, and there is nothing like it in the NFL."
And the drunkest city in America. Check out my post! BTW, pre-season is just that. That doesn't mean squat. Farve, the ex-Falcon, is likely to force the ball in a real game situation to a member of the opposite team. He should have gone out and let the Packers start building a new era. I respect him, but he has sucked the past few years. He has really made some stupid throws, regardless of his lack of talent. Its easy to be awesome when you have great ex Gamecocks like Robert Brooks and Sterling around you.
Speaking of the 'Cocks, look out for my boy Sidney Rice. He is a stud and has put on 15 lbs over the offseason (Balco?) and is faster at his new weight. He is a first rounder already.

I agree. I hear Clarett is available for hire. Seems his has plenty of weaponry. In fact, rumor has it that Lebanon called him for reinforcements.....
Imagine Vick running pass routes with that speed or returning kicks. Running back is a bad idea. He is too large a target and would get murdered (See every time he takes off running.)
He is now looking more and more like a Cordell Stewart. I'm pulling for Schaub even though Vick is/was the face of the NFL. In his defense, they are trying to make him a pocket passer in a West Coast offense when he has a cannon of an arm that can stretch any defense. He just needs to be accurate and the Falcons need to make up an offense for a freak like him. Its that round hole/square peg idea.

The "receiver" crutch has been set on repeat since they days of Chris Miller to Michael Haynes. Vick has got the arm and now he needs the timing. Loads of other teams work with a whole lot less talented targets.
As for the RB position, that had better not been a fluke year for Dunn. Duckett has a lot of potential.

Where have you been? Dunn has been consistently putting up big number for many years. In Atlanta, he didn't even get 30 carries a game. Duckett is a bruiser, and younger, but I'd keep Dunn. He is so shifty and never takes a direct, straight on hit. Watch and see. Same thing they said about Emmit. He prolongs his career by not taking stupid hits.
Its hard to decide whether or not teams have figured Vick out or if it is running the West Coast offense that has slowed his flight. I heard it discussed the other day that Atlanta looked to be taking some plays from last year's Texas team since Vince Young was so successful and was a similar player. I really think Atlanta doesn't want Vick getting his head taken off. I miss the awesome runs. FREAK.

Seems that the player names cannot be changed, just their paswords can be changed.

Time to start getting your picks in for week #2.
We're based on the spread right? When's that scheduled to be released?
Frank Z
09-12-2006, 10:42 AM
The new spread usually gets posted on tuesday after the injury reports are made public. Keep in mind that the spreads can and do change throughout the week so it's a good idea to re-visit your picks before the deadline for each week.
From the FAQ:
15. What are the "Favor By" columns on the picks page?
That is the point spread. There are two "Favor By" columns: One for the away team and one for the home team. If the group you are in is using the point spread to detemine the game winners, then these number will be very important to you. If your group is not using the point spread, then they are just reference. The point spreads will be entered or updated up until the day before a game is to be played. We will use the point speads as posted in the St. Petersburg Times (St. Petersburg, Florida).

No...Team B could be down up to 3 points and still be a winner; the team that has the spread needs to win by at least that amount to be a winner.

Right. So if a team is "+3" they're being "given" three points. YOu take their score at the end of the game, and you "+3" to it, and then whoever wins wins.

Well, actually it's the other way around....if team A has +3, you need to take away those 3 points to the final score of team A. :)

09-14-2006, 10:23 AM
Um, no. Pretend this was a line :
Oakland +3 San Diego -3
Final score, Oakland 14, San Diego 16
To determine who won, with the spread, you ADD three to Oakland's score, or SUBTRACT three from San Diego's score. Oakland is being GIVEN three points. In this case, Oakland lost the game but won against the spread.
Frank Z
09-14-2006, 10:33 AM
Here it is..
If a team is favored by "X" amount of points they must beat their opponent by more than "X" in order to win.
Example:
If you pick a team to win and they are favored by 6 points they must score at least 7 points to win. Anything less is is either a tie (not a win in the football pool) or a loss.
Ricardo

Sorry...but wrong; if Oakland has a +3 spread, they would need to score 20 to be a winner in the pool. 19 would give them a tie, and 18 would make San Diego the pool winner.

Sorry, I wasn't looking at the way the pool laid them out. For official gambling lines, like you see at a casino or on Yahoo (http://sports.yahoo.com/top/odds;_ylt=AsLQcQwDBwaRK8bp0ZDScKY5nYcB), the favored team is listed as "-3.5" and the underdog is "+3.5". The way our pool does it, it just says "favored by", in gambling talk, that is "-".
Here's teh point spread for the Buffalo / Miami game, for example
1:00 pm Buffalo +6.5-110
at Miami -6.5-110
37 ov-110
Miami is favored by 6.5.

Happy to say my Falcons are a lean, mean, running machine. 265 the first game 306 yards the second. Dunn has led the league both weeks. Even though two guys had more yards this week, he had nearly as much on less carries.
Tampa has been the best defensive team against the Falcons the past several years, virtually shutting down the run, especially Vick, so this could be a long year for defenses against the Birds. Who cares if Vic passes for 96 yards? They were on the money and came when needed. Heck, he had 125 yards rushing of his own. I'm back on the Vick wagon nearly full force. Forget Schaub....

Agreed, although they gave up big chunks passing at times. Simms had over 300 yrds, but the Falcons shut down the run and dared him to pass, so that's hard to judge. And, a lot of it was during come back mode. Hope Abraham doesn't miss most of the year with that injury like he did with the Jets. He is a monster, just ask the Panthers. And, yes, we need a kicker. Feely was making a clutch play while K-man was whiffing.
Zombie, don't know if you saw the game, but I watched it at a sports bar and the Falcons are for real. The score didn't indicate the total domination, the four missed FG's aside. Even Norwood was running wild. He could be the full time starter with no problem. Fast as crap. And, the Falcons lined up Hall at receiver for one swing pass which he caught and fumbled. Hall is the fastest man in the NFL, so if he could ever get loose....And, IMO, Dunn is THE most underated player in the NFL. He just gets in done, every time, and rarely takes a hard shot. Shifty mofo with sweet feet. A couple more years with his production where it is currently and I feel he's a Hall of Fame player.

The KC D is much improved, but we still have several games to gel until we kick it in full gear. After that, watch out!

Just out of curiosity, aside from a rivalry, what makes someone hate a team? Especially one like the Pats? Just the oversaturation in the media over the past five years? At least the Pats actually did something to deserve their attention.

It's a good question. How does one come to hate another team? Well, the Pats, I don't like Brady. I think he's overrated and the media Darling. If the hit on Trent Green in week one had been Peyton Manning or Brady the player would have been flagged, fined and possibly ejected. But since it wasn't on a media darling, nobody cared.
That's my take on the matter at least. The Colts are overrated. Manning chokes in the playoffs, and always will. I doubt they will ever reach a super bowl, much less win one, with Manning under the helm.
But I also dislike the Donkeys, simply because of the rivalry.
After all, what other sport is there besides football?

Just out of curiosity, aside from a rivalry, what makes someone hate a team? Especially one like the Pats? Just the oversaturation in the media over the past five years? Do you hate the Yankees in the same way? How about the Colts, that the media slurp to no end despite them never even winning a Super Bowl? At least the Pats actually did something to deserve their attention.
It's the permanent mancrush the entire media has on Belichek and Brady and it keeps getting force fed to everyone. How no matter how many players are lost to injury or free agency, they are still "the best team" with the media.
I also got fed up with obnoxious Pats fans on the Broncos Forum claiming how great their team is and how much better they are then the Broncos when they are 1-9 against the Broncos since 1990 with the one win coming against a third string QB that wasn't even on the team a week earlier. Even that was a "take an intentional safety, get a last second TD" game. And then they whine and give excuses when they lose, turn on their former players, etc...
I strongly dislike Manning, but the rest of the Colts are a class act. The chicken dance before every play is annoying as hell. Besides, the media alway bashes him for every praising piece they do which is funny.
Now the Chef's, well that's a rivalry. I'd say the Raiders, but anymore that's just a joke. Not much of a rivalry against the Bolts though.

THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO OWNING A NE PATRIOTS FAN (REVISED)
Congratulations on your new New England Patriots Fan! Since the Broncos own the Patriots, all Denver Fans get to take advantage of this perk of being a Broncos Fan. Your new 'friend' will give you years of great, but reluctant, service. For your convenience, some of the most commonly asked questions are answered here:
Q-What do I call my Patriots Fan?
A-Anything you want. Find out what it likes to be called, and call it the complete opposite. I prefer to call mine Useless, Worthless, Stupid, Dumbass, etc. Since there are so many adjectives for such a pathetic creature, use your imagination. This is an effective training method.
Q-What do I feed it?
A-Your Patriots Fan likes Clam Chowder (sometimes it might refer to this as 'Chowdahhh', please disregard it's speaking difficulty), Lobster, Baked Beans, Seafood Bisque, other Seafood dishes, etc. Therefore, it deserves none of these. Bread (prefferably stale) is fine, as it will not like this. Your Patriots Fan also enjoys Beer, so do not give it any. If it gets thirsty, give it some warm tap water. It will not like this, so it is then good. Have it eat off the floor for maximum effectiveness. Since most Patriot Fans are fat slobs, a healthy diet is important to it's existence.
Q-My Patriots Fan sounds like it has marbles in it's mouth when it talks. Why?
A-As I began to briefly explain (see above) , most New Englanders (or as it would say, 'Nuu Inglaandahhhz') are born with massive communication defects. This is largely due to the fact that it has the intellect of a Primate, such as a Chimpanzee, Orangutan, Monkey, etc. They can't talk normal and can barely type a computer keyboard. This phenomenon is unexplained. It is best to limit communication with your Patriots Fan, as it doesn't have anything good to say anyway.
Q-I've been getting phone calls from the New England States thanking me. Why?
A-You have done a great service to New England. There is so much human trash in that area, that they have been finally put to some good use. The surrounding Cities are getting cleaner and smelling fresher, day by day.
Q-Where should I install my new Patriots Fan?
A-Anywhere you want. Some of it's most practical useage options are listed below-
1)Next to a pile of garbage- Your Fan will be right at home when installed in this fashion. This way your Patriots Fan won't get homesick.
2)In the Bathroom-Most Patriots Fans are filthy and dirty, and are scared of a Bath/Shower. Installing it in the Bathroom will scare it tremendously. This popular installation method has a dual role. When you have nothing for it to do, have your Patriots Fan clean your Toilet. It loves this.
3)In the Living Room-Make sure it can watch plenty of Denver Broncos Tapes and or DVD's. When you have guests over, you might want to hide it, as it's hideous appearance might make them vomit.
WARNING-DO NOT INSTALL YOUR FAN IN A KITCHEN OR NEAR ANY ABUNDANT FOOD SOURCES-This will make your Patriots Fan happy. Therefore, do not install it in your Kitchen.
Q-What do I do with my Patriots Fan?
A-Anything you like, since the Broncos own the Patriots, you own one of it's Fans. Find out what it likes to do, then do the total opposite. This will put it into anger and distress, so that is good. I personally enjoy laughing at it, mocking it, throwing heavy blunt objects at it, etc. Some excellent ideas were submitted to me via PM of this Board. Apparently, many Broncos Fans will be having Primate-like Patriots Fans put to use. Here are some good examples, starting with my personal favorite-
1)Have it catch bricks with it's face-This game is fun. You can tell by it's screams of happiness that it thoroughly enjoys this special version of 'catch'. Your Patriots Fans Ape-like face can be used in this fashion in a wide variety of ways.
2)Scum Cleaning-My friend has a cesspool/septic tank. Your Patriot Fan will feel like it's back home when around piles of sh*t. Give it a shovel, and have it start the normally nasty job of cleaning this. Your Patriot Ape-man is good at something, and that is cleaning up your sh*t. It is amazingly productive at this.
3)Toilet Cleaning- It excels at cleaning of this fashion. Your Patriot Fan is right at home with it's face in a Toilet. Play games with it, and make it think you'll throw it in the shower.
4)Car Maintenance-Yeah, normally you'd be afraid of letting a Chimpanzee work on your Vehicle, but not a Patriots Fan! Run the Car for 30 min. Instruct your Patriots Fan to remove the Radiator Cap, as you want it to perform some routine maintenance. Watch it writhe and listen to it's screams of happiness as it is burned by scalding hot Antifreeze. Mine seems to like this very much. (WARNING-Since animals are attracted to Antifreeze's sweet odor, do not let it drink it. You will not have your Patriot Fan anymore, as it will die) Now, just top off the system with Antifreeze when it has cooled. Your car/truck is now ready for winter or summer.
5)Playing Superman-Tell your Patriots Fan it can fly, then watch it dive out a window. You can tell by it's shrieks of joy it loves this. I play this game with my Patriots Primate at least once a week (IMPORTANT: DO NOT perform this game with your Fan if you live above the 2nd Floor of an Apartment Building or House. If not, your Fan would be dead, and cannot fullfill it's job half as well).
Q-My new Patriot Fan seems very sad and depressed. I hear it crying about it's 'Paytwiahts'. What is it trying to say?
A- Due to it's massive speech impediment (see above), it is actually saying, in English, Patriots. It is obviously saddened by the constant string of humiliating defeats it's Team has suffered at the hands of our Broncos. Have a fresh supply of warm tap water available to it, to make sure the tears of loss continue to flow freely. Make sure you have Kleenex tissue and/or paper towels to absorb it's tears. I advise taping/recording the Game so it can watch it over and over again.
Q-My Patriots Fan has threatened me with retaliation and/or anarchy. What do I do?
A-Absolutely nothing. Your Patriots Fan has the backbone of a mouse, and it isn't much smarter than one either. It is weak and cowardly. Even if there were 10 of them, they still wouldn't do much of anything. Even in greater numbers, never fear a Patriots Fans, as they/it is pretty much useless. They couldn't instill fear into a tree, not to mention it has the intellect of a Primate. Such is the way of human trash, such as your Patriot Fan happens to be. If you believe it might attack you, keep a Baseball Bat or lead pipe handy. Rain several blows about the head and face and all will be back to normal. Some actually prefer other objects, such as Cattle Prods, Whips, Chains, etc.
Q-My Patriots Fan sometimes appears as if it is trying to say something worthwhile and useful. Is this possible?
A-Not at all. The chances of that is the equivalent of snow in summertime here. Due to it's incredibly low capacity for actual smarts, your Patriots Fan will occasionally have delusions of grandeur. Who can blame it, because it is too stupid to know any better. With the intelligence of an ape or a chimpanzee, you cannot expect too much from it. It will sometimes get extremely frustrated, due to it's brain's limited thinking. To occupy your Patriot's Fans mind, and to keep it from thinking too much, have it clean your Toilet, if installed properly. Or, throw some bricks at it. You will hear it's shrieks of joy, as it will enjoy this greatly. Please refer to 'Installing my Patriots Fan' section of this Owner's Manual.
Q-My Patriots Fan is kind of fat. Do I have to make sure to get it exercise?
A-Yes. It is up to YOU to make sure it gets plenty of exercise, to ensure that it's healthy enough to fulfill it's duties to you, it's Broncos owner. I recommend going to a local Animal Shelter and adopting two of the biggest, most vicious Dogs they have. Cover your Patriots Fan in Vegetable Oil, or meat Fat, and throw it in the backyard with the Dogs. Hear it's howls of terror as it runs for it's life, as Zeus and Spike give chase. Not only are you helping the Animals by giving them Homes, you are enriching their hunting instincts and exercising them as well. Everyone benefits from this popular exercise method.
Q-How do I dispose of my Patriots Fan?
A-If you wish to rid yourself of it's horrendous existence, you can pass it on to fellow Broncos Fans, or 'Hand it down' to another family Member, who are no doubt Broncos fans too. Or if you wish to get rid of it-
1)Leave it at a local garbage dump or landfill. Your Patriots Fan loves to be around trash, garbage, sh*t, etc. This will remind it of it's home, in case it gets homesick.
2)While driving your Vehicle at a realtively high speed (prefferably 50-60 MPH) throw it out of the Car. You can hear it's agonizing screams that it truly enjoyed the fun ride. Always observe local speed restrictions however.
Just thought I'd share the result of how much love the pats fans spread. ;)

Unfortunately, I couldn't catch this game as we just moved into our new house, and service hasn't been started. Which sucks because I rarely miss a game...
That's funny about Feely -- he always made me nervous, but then again...
ALL KICKERS MAKE ME NERVOUS!!!
Exactly. In fact, a few years ago, I stopped watching any extra point or FG kicks whatsoever and performance improved for both my Gamecocks and Falcons. I tried not watching the Falcons kicks, but didn't seem to help....
And Andy, Falcons actually scored both times within the redzone. Vick ran one and threw a bullet to Crump from 5 yards away. They just couldn't kick a 40 yard or shorter FG. Glad you're back on the wagon. I was halfway off myself before the first two games. Vick looks sharper, relaxed, and confident. He doesn't have those crazy legs back there. Yea, he's going to overthrow a few guys from time to time. I guess its hard to tame a slingshot they call an arm:)

[QUOTE=bobman1235]Just out of curiosity, aside from a rivalry, what makes someone hate a team?
Bobman, that's easy. Any team with Jerry Jones, Bill Parcells, and Terrell Owens. Dallas makes strongly disliking them very easy. Pompous owner, coach, and biggest mouth in pro sports. Too bad about T.O.'s little broken fingernail....That cast won't look so hot with his $5,000 pimp suits.....I never cared for any of them as individuals, so this is an easy choice. T.O. is a close second to Michael Irvin as the most easy to dislike current or former NFL players. I suggest that Parcells goes on a tuna diet. Would probably help out with those man boobs.......

Koenen will still handle all punting duties, as well as any kicks farther than 45 yards.
All Falcon's fans will forever be indebted to Anderson's game-winning kick againt a 15-1 Viking squad in Minnesota -- sending them to the Super Bowl in '98. Or better yet, indebted to Gary Anderson for missing some gimmes to allow the Falcons to make an improbable comeback.

Brady- overrated? I guess since the Pats did lose their first playoff game with him at QB last year, that's fair. The comparisons to Joe Montana are unwarranted, since Brady still trails him by 1 ring. So I guess it is possible that the team and QB of the millenium to date are overrated. I suppose you feel the same way about Tiger Woods?

For any of you that watched the game monday night, that was one of the worst MNF games I have ever watched. Not because I'm a big steeler fan and it was one of the worst offensive games in steelers history (Only 150 yards!). It was extremely boring. I kept flipping back and forth between the game and south park. Ben better get his game going, he better not turn into another Tommy maddox... After that performance, they don't even diserve to go to the playoffs.
P.S. I'm surprised that Im second in the pool right now. I barely been watching any games. Its funny how when I actually put money down on games/playoffs, I always lose.

Zombie, I've been on the wagon a lifetime thanks to my old man. You better go back a bit further to Steve Bartkowski, William Andrews, Lynn Cain, Billy Whiteshoes Johnson, Bobby Butler, Alfred Jenkins, Gerald Riggs etc. That's when I started. I'm not one of those new Mick Vick Falcons fans.
I was there for Glanville and his Run and Shoot. Haynes led the league for a time in yrds/catch and was a fast guy. I don't care what anyone says, Chris Chandler was a very good player despite his pension for broken toenail injuries. I went to the playoff game the year of the Superbowl when Hearst broke his leg on the first play. T.O. was still a Niner thug. I also attended the last regular season game against the 9'ers that year. Only games I've been to in person, but watched a'plenty on the tube.

a) the Millenium is only 6 years old, so I would say if there is a team and QB of the Millenium, the one that has won HALF of hte Super Bowls in that millenium would be it.
b) I'm really happy your Broncos have so much up on us head to head, I really am, but unfortunately for you and your denial, the only thing that matters in the NFL is Super Bowls. I don't think the Patriots are the "best team" in terms of talent or anything else, but the way they handle football got them their ultimate goal 3 out of 4 years. The Broncos know how to make an O-Line, and benefit from an atmospheric anomaly for 8 games a year, but haven't won the big one since they had Elway.

First part: only six years.. try team of the decade, lose the ego trip. Team of the Millenium is the Steelers as they have the most in the past 1000 years. Millenium? Pfft! I mean, could you imagine Steeler fans claiming that they are "the team for the next million years!!!" It would be just as accurate.
Second part: Should Bronco fans claim that we have a better team than Indy even though they keep kicking our asses in the playoffs just because we went to the AFCCG last year and they didn't? If you can't beat a team heads up, claiming superiority is a joke.
Home field advantage? Everyone has it. In 2001, if you play the Raiders without snow, they'd have wiped the floor with you. Chiefs probably have the biggest advantage in the league.
Your last sentance makes no sense...
Anyway, you asked why people tend to hate the Patriots and Ahorvitz demonstrated it perfectly...
BTW, which team has the most wins in the NFL over the past 10 years? Past 20? Past 25? Hint: It's the same answer for each question...

The "team of the millenium" thing was a JOKE folks. Obviously you can't judge the team of a thousand year period based on the first sixx years. A JOKE, get it?
And my last sentence made perfect sense. You said you hate patriots fans because, essentially, they're sore winners. They brag too much and hold themselves to lofty titles which are, I agree, mostly undeserved. But your constant bitching and moaning about it, and then pointing out that our head to head record favors the Broncos, is a combination of sore losing (you guys haven't had a good playoff run lately, we have) and sore winning, aka the exact thing you're blaming Patriots fans of (ie, "we beat you, neeener neener, look at my not even remotely clever writeup of waht to do with your Patriots fan, I'm so funny"... what was that thing written, by an 8 year old? Honestly, come up with something original).
Regardless of all that, I think your point is wrong prima fascia. Patriots fans aren't usually the ones arguing that thier team is the "best ever", despite what you see on your Broncos forum. Chances are Pats fans trolling a Broncos forum are just there to stir up shit. Most of the talk you complain about comes from the bobbleheads in the media, and the only reason they spout that nonsense about "best team ever" and "best coach ever" and blah blah blah is because it makes a good story and a good debate for people. Not to mention that it makes one of the top 3 television markets in the country (the northeast) tune in more. It's whta they do, th ey make bold claims and then defend and refute and argue them to get ratings. Otherwise they have nothing to talk about in the offseason or down weeks.
For years it's been the Colts and how great Peyton Manning is; the Packers and how strong and resilient Brett Favre is; the Broncos and how they have the best system for the running game in the history of football... ETC ETC. These stories come around every couple of years, and then they wear out until the next media darling comes along. If the Pats don't win the Super Bowl this year, it will be 3 years since our last Super Bowl win, and we'll be forgotten for the next team, guaranteed. I rarely hear much about them anymore anyways. It was at most a 2 year run of media coverage. The 2001 story was just "underdog wins". 2002 we lost, and were barely mentioned, except to say that we were like every other Super Bowl winner who had a crap season the following season. The only real story about the Pats was from '03 through '04. Oooo, two years when a team was dominant! And media hyperbole! For shame!

At least bobman was able to see the joke in the Team and QB "of the Millenium" comments...
Have the Broncos had the Pats number lately? Yes.
Are they the better team over the last 5 years? No.
As to the "Best Ever" statements, let's have a look at some of football's dynasties. Like it or not, the Pats make the list...
1930's & 40's- Bears and Packers
1950's- Browns and Colts
1960's- Packers
1970's- Steelers
1980's- 49ers
1990's- Cowboys
2000's- Pats
I'm not ranking these teams, as it's impossible to compare teams from different eras. But please realize that bringing head-to-head records into a discussion that centers on championships is ludicrous.
This is not Pats fan whining. This is simply a counter to the overrated label that's been lobbed at football's only active dynasty.

It's not Brady, it's BB's ego. he got lucky in the second superbowl with plugging some of the holes in the team so now he thinks he can just put anyone on the field and win because of his genious. Because of this, your awesomw 14-2 team of three years ago is barely a shadow of its former self talent wise. Brady, like Manning, is a GREAT QB with talent around him but he is not like those ultra rare QB's that can take a team with no talent and force them to the SB.
Denver is doing the same thing with RB's and D-Line. It just hasn't killed us yet.

Get yor picks in boy's and girls!
I'll be announcing 1 of the 3 prizes this week.
You can win it,

Well I see that there are 12 people that failed to get their butt in gear and make their picks for this week, too bad really.
Why you ask?
Well it's simple, if you don't get your picks in on time your chances of winning 1 of 3 prizes is greatly.
Prizes? There are prizes?
Well of course there are! haven't you been following the thread!
What are these prizes of which you speak oh Great Commissioner-O-Da-Pool?
Since there seem to be a few slackers that need a bit of motivation...I'll tell you what the prize is for 1St place....
My very own Carver C-9 Sonic Hologram Generator.

That Falcons game was awesome!!! I wound up watching more of it than I did the NASCAR race!
I also think it was the only game I picked right.
I just suck at picking. I watch every weekend but I never watch the talk shows so I never know whats going on. But today had quite a few upsets. Tampa and Green Bay to name a few.
Looks like the upsets got everybody this week!

Agreed... and I cast my vote accordingly.
The only sense I can make of the Pitt-Denver line is that oddsmakers cannot possibly imagine a world where the Steelers (nay, Super Bowl champs) are 2-6.

It is a glorious day in the 'ville....
When Howard Schnellenberger said Louisville football "was on a collision course with the national championship" back in '85 -- everyone rolled their eyes, including many UofL fans. The fact is with the exception of the few years of Ron Cooper helming the ship, the football program has steadily improved year in and year out...
This may be a basketball city first and foremost, but right now football rules the roost... The town is having a blast and last night was glorious. Blackout indeed! Did you see the stands? And to have an actual black-out occur was awesome...
What a great vibe... sorry for the derail. Back to the pros... and the pool.

I'm saying the Saints'll be all over the Steelers.
Having said that, however, you'd be wise to pick the Steelers (based upon my prediction capablities as evidenced last week).
We have a new method for selecting our picks this week, BTW. We'll see how it works out.

Usually a game is "off" if there's some circumstance that's up in the air that could affect the outcome of the game. I assume in Seattle's case it's the possible presence of either / both Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck.

Well we are winding down and it looks like a battle royale between Dragon1952 and Tide.
Who gets to wear the " 2006-2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champion" title ?
I started to warm up a little too late. Oh well, there's always next year.
Good luck

I have been moving for the past couple weeks from S. Cal to Oregon and played the last 2 weeks in advance. I just today got my internet connection in my new digs and found that I was able to squeak it out by 1 game over Tide.
I tell you...this moving shit is a drag. I rented a 26 ft U-Haul and couldn't fit everything in it. I drove it 1100 miles and had to fly back and rent another 17 footer plus a 6x12 trailer and make another trip. The second trip I said 'screw this' and drove straight through. I'm in a rental for up to 6 mos while my new house is being built so I get to do this again shortly. I've never worked so hard in my life :( Anyway, kudos to Tide for a close, hard fought battle. It was a lot of fun!
Oh, BTW...this is my second win in the 3 years of this contest. Not to brag as each win was by an RCH but just trying to motivate y'all for next year! :p
