I was pondering the purchase of some srs 2.3's. I will not have the chance to listen to them prior to purchase and wanted some feedback. I currently own LSI series speakers. I hear that the srs's creat a large soundstage with incredable imaging. Can anybody out there give me their expertise in this matter, I would appreciate it very much.

Hi Pal,

I don't think you can go wrong owning a pair of SDA's. The soundstage is pretty amazing. That being said, I have no direct comparison experience with the LSi series. I believe that Polk recommends the CSi5 for the center as a timbre match. I'm sure someone else will chime in on that.

Something else to think of is the sheer size and weight of the 2.3's. They will need at least 200 watts of high current power from a common ground amplifier. I am pretty sure the Acurus will fit the bill, but the Adcom will be a bit shy of the mark.

Keep us posted on what you do!

P.S. How much are the 2.3's going for - that would impact my decision greatly.

Chris

Yep, price is a factor, as is whether or not the interconnect is included. Still, if its remotely reasonable, I'd jump on it. Set up properly, they will blow you away!

I was hoping to pick them up for 1200.00 or so, what do you think I should pay?

There is a pair with all the original paperwork, etc, original owner, an $800.00 opening start on Ebay, no bids, and one day left. http://cgi.ebay.com/Mint-Polk-Audio-SDA-SRS-2-3-Speakers-Original-Owner_W0QQitemZ290021479720QQihZ019QQcategoryZ7157 1QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

However, there is something to be said for being able to purchase locally and not having to risk damage and expense of shipping. Plus, many sellers flat out won't ship due to the pain in the butt factor and shipping costs. There are other more knowledgeable members on day to day prices, but I think that is a bit high. I bought my SDA-SRS's locally for $800.00, but that was a really great find. I think you will get more opinions shortly. You said "or so," so I assume you can negotiate a bit. Are they local? I am guessing maybe not since you can't listen first.

If you haven't already, use the search button and search those speakers on this site. Here is one that might be helpful dealing with the more desirable TL's. http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28640&highlight=sda+2.3+price

You may find an answer to that question and will get a ton of info on the SDA line, possibly even comparisons to your current Polks. And as previously mentioned, condition is everything when it comes to top dollar.

Here is a link to a site that needs more recent price updating, but gives some indication:

how come you can't demo or listen to them before you purchase them? are they being shipped to you or what?

The first thing people always say is that the SRS'S are HUGE.. and they are HUGE, and HEAVY. be sure you have the room and a couple buddies to help you move them indoors.

I've had my SRS's for about a year now. and I still love them. They do need some pretty decent amount of power. Yes there were disigned to run on as little as say 50wpc.. but the more power you put to them the better they sound.

So if you got 200+ watts into 4ohm, you should do fine.

Just this week i powered them up after not having had the time the last two weeks to listen to them. I used to try and squeeze a half hour to an hour a couple times a week in. But I was to busy and couldn't do it.

So i fired them up... and i was amazed all over again how good they sound. If you have SL2000 tweeters in the SRS's you're looking to purchase.. replace them ASAP with the replacement silk dome tweeter. You'll be glad you did.

Some people (I won't name any names) have thought the larger SDA's were nothing special. Any tweaks, and improvement you make to your gear, interconnects, amp, etc will be noticable in your SRS's immediately. That's not always the case with all speakers... some times you add or change something out.. and it only yields a small improvement in sound quality. That's not be the case with me.. i have noticed some pretty big improvements whenever i upgrade something that is hooked up to the SRS's.

Are they 2.3's or 2.3TL's. Local or is shipping involved? Original cartons and interconnect cable included? Provide as much info as you can, so we can help you better.
