View Full Version : Rearranged my room...

I finally got around to rearranging my room last Friday and Saturday. I came across an equipment rack that fit the bill, so I moved my audio equipment and decided to redo my whole room, too. I've been wanting to for quite a while, so I'm happy it's finally happened.

I just got around to taking some pics, so I thought I'd post 'em up. Why? Good question. I can only think of three reasons...1) I'm excited about it, 2) I'm putting off my homework, 3) a higher post count!! :D

1. Interesting looking picture...
2. Same pic with the correct white balance
3. Picture of my equipment from the door
4. Close-up of my new audio 'rack'
5. TUBES!!
6. The rest of the equipment
7. There's my desk...look! I'm on CP!
8. There's the opposing wall over my bed...just a few of the cars I'd like to own one day...
9. Looking back toward the door
10. My closet
11. My collection of Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Road & Track, Popular Hotroding, Super Chevy, Sport Compact Car, Truckin', Top Gear, Car, etc.

Are those cassette tapes??? Geez, haven't seen those things since the 80's.

BTW, pull your speakers out flush with the rack.

Hahaha, yeah, they're cassettes. I have too much good music on cassettes to throw 'em out.

Thanks for the tip with the speakers; I'll do that. As soon as I get enough motivation, I'm going to start a thread in the 2channel forum about placement for them, now that I actually have the ability to place them where I want them.

RC rules!
Hahaha, took me a second to get that. I knew you must mean remote/controlled, but I couldn't figure out what brought that on. I think if I could find a buy for my T-Maxx, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. I just don't time for it anymore, and when I do, I've use up all my time by the time I have it running again.

Thanks for the kind words, schwarcw.

ROFL! I bet her closet is big enough to park a small car in, yet too full of stuff to even set foot in!

We'll see how long my closet stays 'neat'.

Yea, sweet gear, but do something about that lamp! I've seen better at garage sales:)

  :( :o

:p

I had never once given the lamp any critical thought. That lamp (and a few others like it) have probably been in this house (and this one in my room) since we've been living here...or about 26 years...maybe it is time to look into something else...

Nice display of your gear!

What do your friends say about your tube amps? I always get a kick out of my son's friends asking about my "old school" stuff.

Sadly enough, I don't really have but one friend that appreciates any of this at all. And most of my other friends and I hang out at different places, so my tubes don't get that much 'exposure'.

However, they did get a good bit of exposure when I took my AV-20's to power speakers for my best friend's sister's wedding reception. I figured I'd get a few comments...but I didn't. But, they were all just stupid teenagers, so I'm not worried about it too much! :p

Get wingnut's advice on your interior. She might let you keep the lamp.:)

Also, be careful with the sunlight -- it can discolor your gear, especially the speakers.

I'll bet she would do a cool makeover. Your room looks great, neat and organized. She would add a "tropical" touch from Miami. Pimped out with some nice lights, throw pillows, window treatments, etc. So when you sneak some chicks up there they'd be all over you:D

Hmm, maybe I should think about that one. Mom actually brought it up when I said I was going to put all this under the window, but I just brushed the comment aside. How big of a concern is fading, really? I honestly hadn't thought about the speakers...

But, one good thing is the blinds are always closed.

Direct sunlight will cause fading.........if you have sheers or blinds always closed, then you should be ok (aside from potentially baking your equipment if it gets too hot).

More pics! I decided to take the covers off the Wave 8's, so now you can see all the 10 tubes in their golden glory. Looks great, if you ask me. That's my cassette deck on the bottom with all the funky colors...I love that thing!

Get rid of that dresser on the corner. leave at least 2-3 feet of free space between the corner of the room and the speakers. Put the speakers forward at least 16 inches. 3 feet would be ideal but i see that you don't have that much real estate available. Try to create a triangle between the speakers and your sweet spot. Toe in the speakers consistent with the triangle.
These changes will create one hell of a soundstage.

Danger,
I think you are seeing Moms magic touch in that room. Very little AB and alot more AB's Mom. ;)

Very nice gear.

Thanks. I'm proud of every piece in my system. I just think my system might be lacking in the 'synergy' department. But maybe if I can get my placement down pat, it would help a bunch.

That's a resounding no!

Thanks for the placement tips. I'll definitely pull them out from the wall some, but unfortunately the resident interior designer (Mom) does have the final say, and the 'main' pieces of furniture are where they're going to be. However, I'll work with what I've got as best as I can.

Are you kidding?? Man, I did all that by myself. That's right, I moved my bed, my dresser, and my chest of drawers by myself. Mom didn't like my plan...but she did let me try it with the right to veto it.
Very nice gear.
Thank you. Get you some tubes and I'd be inclined to say the same about your rig. :D

Hmm, I wonder if my son will ever stack his room full of electronic equipment. I'm still waiting for one for the light to go off in one in one of my kids. Something like, "gee Dad, you've got a kick ass HT that blows the socks off rich Dad Johnny's HT. I love you".

give them some time... a 3 yr old is a little young don't you think? ha ha ha JK!

I don't know many (youngins, except maybe Sid and AB) who are their age and are interested in this hobby. I know I wasn't either at that age.

Well, your kids have dad to show they the way. good luck. :D

OMG, AB! That's one hell of a system! Like others have mentioned, you've come a long way. See what this forum does to you?;)

Man, I keep forgetting you also have the wave 8's. So I'm guessing you're bi-amping? 8 on tweets and 20 on woofers? That must sound really good.

Any plans for a tube pre?

Keep up the good work, buddy.
