Single 8" or 10" sub suggestion

I would also like to get a small, sealed sub for my trunk that WON'T take up much room in my Prelude. I am thinking one 8" or 10" (10" preferred) sealed sub that can slam. I want super tight, hard bass, so ported stuff is out of the question.

I previously used a JL arrangement with 3 10" subs years ago. I loved the sound, but taking up the entire trunk is not an option these days. I need something that can stay in the back section near the rear deck and that doesn't require a large, heavy enclosure.

Thats what Im running in a .58 box and I got mine to fit in a ridiculously small space.

My good friend has a Soundsplinter RL-i8 sub in his trunk. This sub can get loud and stay very clean doing it. People are always amazed when he pops open the trunk and shows them that's it's only an 8" sub that he has. I ran the 10" sub in one of my cars and was very happy with it. I plan on getting the RL-i8 for my newer car.

The only thing is that they say it requires one cube of airspace. If space is at a premium, it may be an issue.

The SR 10 will work down to .7 ft3.

I know it will, but changing the enclosure will also change the sound. If he wants it to sound like that review, he will have to put it into an enclosure that will be about a cube. The smallest he should probably go would be .88 cubic feet gross.

For a 10", that enclosure size isn't huge by industry standards. My current 10" is in a .66 cubic foot enclosure, but that's pretty small for a 10.

I can't picture an ideal place to build a fiberglass enclosure into a '98 Prelude- never looked in the trunk of one. The anatomy of the trunk may have a spot where a box could be built-in without taking the whole cube directly out of cargo space.

I agree that 8" subs can put out, too. What we need for this occasion are some SR 8s...

The Soundsplinter sub that I had did very well in a .70 cubic foot enclosure. The recommendation was actually .75 cubic feet. The reason I went down some is because at first I was sending a good amount of juice to it. More than the Arc 2100-XXK I had it paired up with later. I was also toying with the idea of getting another one of those subs for my 2002 Maxima. I want the most trunk space available. I am thinking of maybe just shooting for the 8" that I will run in an IB application on my stock 8" location on the rear panel. Decisions.....decisions.....

That is net volume after taking into effect the drivers displacement. So the gross volume is of the enclosure is more. At the bottom of the review he makes a statement something to the effect that says this sub does what he wants it to in a cubic foot enclosure.
