I just stumbled on this review from the UK of an R series HT set-up. The review isn't that informative, but I found it interesting that the CSi25 was the center and that it did come in the cherry vinyl at one time.

I've never seen the cherry vinyl in person. For those that own it or have seen it, how does it look? Presentable or fakey?

R50's real veneer, cherry, very nice. Other R series, vinyl, no comment.

You sure the R50s have a real cherry veneer? I believe the R series is vinyl across the board, whether cherry or black. I don't see a mention of "real wood" veneer in any of Polk's descriptions of the R series.

Gee, maybe my owners manual is wrong.

owners manual or not... I think most of it looks decent however like vinyl.. even my old rti's with real wood finish looked good, but looked nothing like real wood. and rubber feet shouldnt take "real wood grain" off :D Id say for that level of speaker.. it would look fine.

Hmm, I just noticed that the owner's manual does say black wood veneer for the R50s, and black vinyl for the rest of the series. No mention of cherry though. Does your manual mention cherry specifically?

If so, I stand corrected and that makes them even more of a good deal.

By the way, I'm thinking about picking up a pair from outpost.com. I gave my R30s to my sister, so I'm looking for another set of inexpensive towers for a different room than my main listening area. I'm just not sure about the cherry since I haven't seen it in person. If it's too red, it won't go well with the rest of the furniture in that room.

The original R50s had wood veneer, the later ones have vinyl.

AM0551-A R50 BLACK (wood veneer)
AM0556-A R50 BLACK (vinyl)

PS. I only have black r50s, no cherry.

Perhaps certain colors are only produced for certain markets. For much of the 90s, we can't get any silver components here in the States, even though they are availble elsewhere on the planet.
