I am currently using an Onkyo 5.1 receiver, about 3-4 yrs. old. I recently moved and am hooking up my speakers again. The receiver would turn on and then turn off with the standby light flashing. Is that an sign of an short circuit? I tried to wire just my front mains, still did it. Don't know what I did during the move. Any suggestions? How do you tell if an receiver is short circuited? Thanks

Few questions for you.....
What type/model of speakers are you using? How many channels are you running? Are you sure that you don't have a wire crossed (neg to pos somewhere in the mix)? What model Onk is it?

it is an ht-r500 with 5 channels to Polk csm, r50, r15s. I thought it might be miswired. So, I just connect the mains and I am sure the pos and neg are right, still. turns on then just turns off. the standby light keeps blinking.

Have you tried another electrical outlet?

I had an onkyo txsr 600 that went in to protect mode and I had to do a reset of the receiver to get it to come back on
Just checked out the Onkyo website to reset the receiver you must hold down the video 1 button then press the on stand by/on button. the word CLEAR should appear on the front display and it will enter stand by mode and the receiver should be reset. Idon't know if it will fix it but you might give it a shot.
