well i did the flea market thing this morning (havent been lately, its to damm hot) and found a nice realistic lab 450 auto TT and direct driven, so i drag it home and hook it to my sherwood pre, that happens to have a phono input.. pop on one of GG's records i just received from him and it worked.. I say that because most audio items are said to "have been tested" and never are and rarely work correctly or at all..
So i cranked it up, (course i have the rotel's now to do it LOL ) and it sound sdamm good.. no crackles, no hiss and it has a shure cart /needle.. hell i know nothing about TT's.. it says shure 5x on the front of the needle.. only problem i see is the counter weight stem i guess it can be called looks cracked and the weight sags a tiny bit.. you have to hold the stem and twist the weight to get it to slide up.. but once set, it works fine.. pretty cool i say.. loved seeing that record spinning under the dust cover..
One large problem, MY rack is FULL!!! LOL so its on the dreaded floor for now..
I'll post pictures later, after i drink a cold one.. its damm hott today in florida..

Since I got this system I regret giving my tt and records to my brother. I never thought I would want them again. But I do.

That looks like one of the better ones as far as Realistic goes. See that pitch knob? Set it so the ring for 33 1/3 stands still. A funny thing can happen here. If you run across a boring record you really don't care that much for, bump the pitch up just slightly until the ring just barely starts to turn (towards faster) (not you, the + mark :)) and see if you don't like the record more.

awesome, I wondered what that light was for.. It has 45 and 33 @ 50hz and then the 2 bottom rings are 45 and 33 60 hz.. i could only get the bottom ring to stop.. but i wondered how you set the pitch..
I know, i need a record brush big time.. my house is major dusty..
anything else about this player i can tweek or play with?
Thanks guys

Nice TT! I used to have a Realistic LAB 290 back in the 80s.

Each ring is for a different speed/power. The 50Hz rings don't matter in N. America. Those are for use in countries with 50Hz power frequencies. In N.A., we are always 60Hz. The bottom ring shoud be stationary when playing 33s, the 2nd from bottom stationary when set for playing 45s. Simple enough, but I never knew what the 50Hz meant until I was older and started learning about the differences in power when you travel!
