Scary **** for any parent to see. We'll be hearing a lot more of this as the story evolves.

WOW......new info......the news reports say that the cops shot him dead, but I found out that my nephews' best friend James, was being held as a human shield in the school cafeteria. One girl who was shot was lying in pain on the floor. The shooter ask James "Do you think she's dead?" and then he shot her 2 more times and said "she is now".
In fact the cops had not shot him dead, they hit him in the leg, at which point he pulled out another handgun from under his vest and shot himself under the chin up through his head. James' parents had their anniversary today....I guess having their son still around is a blessing.
Oddly enough, the shooting started OUTSIDE the school in a shopping mall, 3 people were shot there. The cops gave chase into the school where he started firing off more rounds.
Final tally according to the news....one dead shooter, one dead student, 18 other injured people, eight of which are critical.

Joe, it hits once again, not sure what it is with MTL and shooters @ schools. But DAMN ! not again. When I heard the ages of the kids there 16-17-18, wow just out of high school (not that age makes this any less). My thoughts are out to the friends and families of those involved.

He was not a student at Dawson. He was a 25 year old. He had a weblog alluding to doing something like that and with pictures of him posing with his weapons.
This isn't the first time we had such a situation.....Mark Lepine, a crazed gunman, angry at a university for seemingly favoring women in the technical department, sought out and killed 14 woman in 1989.
Another gunman killed several people at Concordia university some years back.

Does your daughter know anyone attending the college?
I just don't like how they stereotype by saying he wore balck and sported a mohawk. Does it matter what he wears and how his hair is styled.
I'm sure the kids are going to take a while before heading back.

Anastasia Desousa died of gunshot wounds at the scene....she was 18 years old.
The official police report so far is that THEY killed the gunman. Although I know that is not true, it is what is good for the public eye and the police image. Their presence did prevent more deaths for sure. They happened to be right at the corner doing something else when it all started.
A few years after the 1989 shooting, the laws were changed allowing police officers to enter the building in such a situation, rather that surrounding the building and asking the shooter to please stop killing people, while they wait for the swat team.
The shooter had two bags full of ammo, but with the police chasing his ass, he didn't have time to properly set himself up.
