View Full Version : Dimming lights? Burned Alternator
I have 2 mm120s however they are not hooked up. I plan on getting an autotek mx-1300 and run these subs at 2 ohm at 650watts a peice. I will be getting a 2 fared cap but will this solve my problem on dimming lights or would i still need a new alternator?
Thanx

I think you should be fine. BUT, however, when you start to drive your stuff hard, your ligts may flash slightly.
Matt,
The stiffening cap will definitely help the minimize the "sag" in voltage feeding the amplifier due to the high voltage and current demand from the power supply of the amplifier. You will find that the bass will take on a more "controlled and detailed" response,
and the ligfhts won't dim as often. If you still encounter this problem, then the next step is to upgrade the battery and maybe add a additional battery and a battery isolator and upgrade the alternator.
Make sure that when you charge the cap, to use the "bleeder
resistor" when doing so. It will get hot but this is normal.
Happy Installing!!
