While in Puerto Rico a couple weeks ago, I picked up a few bottles of Bacardi rum. Bacardi Reserve is so-so, but infinitely better than regular old Bacardi. Now, Bacardi 8 is very special. I didn't even know this eight year old stuff existed. It's very nice. On ice, it tastes like a very good rum. The presentation is not bad at all. After a couple seconds in the gullet, the sugarcane comes out into your throat (and brain I guess). With no ice, it is almost like drinking a nice cognac. It's no Goslings, but recommended anyway. Now while on the subject of my old favorite Goslings, it appears there is a Goslings "Old Rum" which is very rare. I need to find some of this material for my research. Looks like it sells for about $50 a bottle, and in some circles is considered to be the finest rum there is.

That is all.

Sounds like Brasil's sugar cane "pinga". Try it in a glass with some hand chopped mixed fruit and blended ice then report back.

Fuck gin, and Filthadelphia. I don't want to look like a pasty-faced English person, and I certainly don't want any of the old boys in Brooklyn knowing I'd go to a hole like Filthy.

Rum is good friend. Real good.

I'll try pinga with just ice Steve. Mouthful of fruit isn't my idea of a good time.

C'mon George, lots of added sugar is "good for you" with alcohol.

I'm not from Philly, but comparing Jersey to Philly is like comparing horse shit to cow shit. Still shit. Fuck Rum.

Go back to the heartland and swill gin. That's where the real cow and horseshit is.

BINGO!!

Yes my friend you are so correct. There is completly nothing in New Jersey worth a shit besides the Jesrey Shore. Even most of the shore is a run-down shit-hole, including the casinos. Did you ever try driving in jersey? Holy shit - they have friggin circels, and there is NOTHING worse than a jersey driver. Not one of them can friggin drive. Google it and you'll see...

As for the RUM, I love the stuff. Appleton's or Mt.Gay is real good. Don't like gin. Hey GG hope you don't take this stuff to heart...but let's face it. Excluding your HiFi and rum, jersey is very uneventful and dull place.

I'm not from NJ or PA, but have spend enough time in both to say that NJ has very nice, beautiful areas as does PA. However, Philly is a very scary place. Some of you need to open your eyes.

Not a drop of rum last night.

America's asshole, Filthadelphia. Wasn't always that way, but it sure is now.

Might we assume, George, that you won't be sitting in front on your TV today, wearing your Eagles jersey, rootin' on the boyz from Philly ?

Before you answer: remember, they're playing the Cowboys with the infamous Terrel Owens.

Quite the conundrum, I'd say; the Mob vs. one of Lucifer's Princes.

Rum never seems to settle correctly in my stomach.

I'm a kettle one and cranberry guy myself

Good god how does anyone drink fucking gin???

I've always considered Bacardi rock-gut, but have never tried the 8 year stuff, either. I've always liked rums from Jamaica and other islands, like Appleton's and Myer's, among other rarer brands..

I'll have to give it a try...are you bringing any to PFest, George?

Gin is in the same league as port wine.

....and that's not a good thing. :(

I cannot attend PolkFest. Wendi and I together is long and hard on Troy.

Great rums would include Goslings, Appletons, Mt. Gay, Flor de Cana (Nicaragua), Anniversario (Venezuela), Ron Abuelo (Panama). I like the taste of Myers, but I drank a bottle of that once and got a real bad headache.

MBBL, You assume correctly. Tonight is the Greek festival over in Cherry Hill. Great food and those gorgeous Grecian babes. Wouldn't miss it for the world. I'm not at all into pro sports, certainly don't have a favorite football team, and would agree that T.O. is a lowlife idiot. HOWEVER, as I stated before, I would root for a team comprised of Taliban, Al-Qaeda, and child molesters before I pulled for ANYTHING from Filthy. Gin. What a shit drink.

You all need to realize that George is FAR from capricious. Anything he does, he does for a VERY good reason.

I differ in that there are few things I enjoy more than a dry Bombay Sapphire martini.

George, I hear there is a new 12 year old Puerto Rican scotch that is supposed to be clear. Hear anything about it?

Philly’s filth is directly proportionate to its mayor. Mayor Ed Rendell good, clean, safe, city. Mayor Greene, good, clean, safe, city. Mayor Goode, horrible crime rate, filthy city, corruption, poorly run city. Mayor Street, horrible crime rate, filthy city, corruption, poorly run city.

You are right it always wasn't and isn't always this way!!!

Can't help with the scotch. It's the very first thing I ever got radioactive on (9th grade?), and to this day it's still verboten. I do have a intact bottle of Glenfiddich that an Englishman just recently gave me. I'm saving it for when my good buddy from Oz, "Aussie Mac" drops in.

I enjoy Greek cognac (Metaxa) far more than I enjoy rum, but I have a limited stock of that (only about a case left) so it's a little Flor de Cana tonight.

I don't know about the timeline. I dislike John Street as much as the next guy, but the violence and especially the "wolfpacks" of the '80's down around South Street were there long before Street became mayor. For the uninformed, the wolfpacks were groups of 5-10 young, inner city "gentlemen". The area around South Street is a happening little place, frequented by couples strolling and stuff like that. Little eateries and shops. There is virtually no parking on South Street. You'd have to park a few blocks away in the residential areas. The wolfpacks knew this and waited for you and your honey to finish up your evening and head to the car. They were waiting for you on those sidestreets. Even if you double-dated, a couple guys were no match for the numbers, especially if they were armed, which in Filthy is just about a given. Oops, I slipped. I do see know where your timeline attributes the beginning of the slide to Willie B. Goode. At least he firebombed the Move freaks though. Him and that police commissioner he had at the time whose name sounded vampirish. Can't remember it. Gregor something or other.

GREGOR SAMBOR! Sounds like a flesh-eater if I ever heard one.

NO WAY!

I missed you by a day! I was there on Saturday with my friends Regas and his girl Alexandria, His brother John, Constantine and Sophia! Had a GREAT time and got "radioactive" on Ouzo! Lots of dancing and music with a bouzouki, gyros, kebabs, spinach pie and shouts of OPA!

Yeah, Greek Festivals are a blast!

Now I gotta take my Greek friends to a Polish festival and see how they like that and see how well they can handle thier Vodka and beer!

Getting radioactive on ouzo is just about the worst hangover in the world John!

Lou, at least they changed the saying on their license plates. Now when they perform a really "precision maneuver" like cutting you off at high speed, you don't have a license plate in your face that says "You've got a friend in Pennsylvania".

Had no problems the next morning. We didn't roll in from the festival until about 1 am. I got up around 9 am and went to help a friend tear apart a bathroom. I was a little tired but no hangover for me.
