How big is that tv and what kind of sub is that?

I have a 40" Sony KDL-V40XBR1 and it was a Polk Audio RM6500 sub that was part of a 5.1 satellite system. I sold the system and selling stuff on eBay to have enough money for a SVS sub. My wife said I cannot buy anymore speakers unless I sell stuff to earn the money.

What are the back speaker? Woman always complain about buying home theatre stuff. How much was the SVS sub? Are you happy with it? What other brands of subs did you listen to? How was the RM6500 in your living room?

I used to have my system in my signature but it disappeared when I posted this picture. I have Proficient C645 61/2 round speakers in my ceiling above my listening area. www.proficientaudio.com They seam to work just fine with my set up. My wife did pick out the entertainment center that you see in the picture, so I got that going for me.

As for the SVS sub. I currently don't have a sub. My wife told me that if I wanted any more speakers I had to sell stuff on ebay to buy any new equipment. I cuurently have a little more than $ 475 in my paypal account and I need to get to $ 630.00 for a 20-39PCi and $853.00 for a 20-39PC+ which she has approved over the box subs because of the footprint. I am watching the B-stock. I really have not listened to any other subs other than a brief demo with a PSW505 and a Definitive Technologies PS1000 at a local shop. I have not even heard an SVS but they are so highly reguarded that I can't go wrong to meet my HT needs. My system is in the basement and the RM6500 did, what I thought was a pretty good job untill I spent some time on this board. So I think I am in for a real improvement with any SVS sub.

That should answer all your questions.

figured, but put it where? At least 50% of the top of the receiver is still ventillated.

As far as the Xbox... My fav games are Project Gotham Racing 3, Call of Duty 3, Gears of War, Oblivion, DOA4, Kameo, there's more by the minute. Definitely get LIVE Gold, it's half the fun and the biggest advantage over PS3 or Wii. I don't have the HD DVD player yet but I do have the 1080p update... but the TV doesn't do 1080p... good thing I get a huge Best Buy discount.

Take 3 pieces of wood and build a shelf that'll give the Yammie room to breath & you can put the TV on top of the shelf.

MikeC78
11-15-2006, 01:42 PM
Man, you can find some good deals at Ikea.

It doesn't really matter... as long as it has proper ventilation, that means the TOP of the AVR is unobstructed you are good. Hell, the floor is better than where you have it now.

Like I said, it's not permanent. I'll get a shelf or something, or maybe I'll just relocate it. But explain to me this: if you had another amp or a cd player or something and you stacked it on top (like it's designed to) wouldn't there only be about 1/4 in ventillation space?

halo
11-15-2006, 07:02 PM

There is NO receiver that I know of that is designed to have equipment stacked on top of it. If you read your owner's manual I'm sure it clearly states a minimum of 6-8" clearance on top.

CSi series great center channel speakers, but I wanted something that wouldn't overpower the setup. I had to put the speaker in the center of the TV. Did't want one that would over power the look of the TV.

I have a question about ventilation of my reciever, do to my upgrading i need to move some things around and was wondering if i put my dvd on top of my onkyo reciever i would have about 1/2" clearance, would this be enough ventilation ?

Frank Z
11-16-2006, 03:17 PM
No, most manufacturers require 6-8" on top.

surfntomm
11-16-2006, 05:14 PM
i think that you can afford to put a dvd player on top of your receiver, it all depends on how long you listen to music for and how loud. if your receiver gets very hot then i wouldnt recommend it but if you are like most then it will be fine. i have my dvd player on top of my denon 2106 and is been fine so far. just remember that air is not coming in from the top, its only leaving so i think having the sides open is more important. either way use your best judgement, try it out and if you notice pretty hot air coming out then its probably baking inside of the receiver.

If you're upgrading, I'm assuming that you also flip your gear to assist. With that in mind, stacking gear is probably not the best way to preserve your gear's condition.

just my 2 centerinos:)

Hey, here's a quick picture of my setup, minus the surrounds. I'm a new medical student living off loans, so I'm not exactly living in a mansion, but it meets my needs and I like it. My fellow students love my house for movie nights, when I have time to host them. As for my setup, you can see a pair of RTi-38s and a CSi-30. The sub is a SVS PB10-isd, which I love. The surrounds are the FXi-30s, but aren't visible from this photo.

Here is apic of my old RTi setup. Sold those, ended up going with a Klipsch Reference setup, and as of my purchases today, I am back in the polk ballgame!!

Bought a set of black RTi70's a CSi30 (still looking for a CSi40), two RTi38's and a set of FXi30's.

I am very stoked about this setup! I loved my RTi's, and I like the look and build quality of the RTi70's over the RTi8's.

This set up is going in my dedicated home theater. I may eventually put the CSi30 and RTi38's in my family room, when I get the CSi40. Would prefer to have a set of RTi28's on the back wall, for size aesthetics mostly!

Heres some pics of my RTi setup. They are RT35i, CS245i, RT25i for the rears. Also the big thing in the corner is my DIY subwoofer. Its an RL-P15 in an 8.5cf enclosure tuned to 17hz. Its powered by a Behringer EP 1500 and has since been painted in a high gloss black. Its topped off with the grill from my old Polkaudio PSW450 which is mounted over the 6" port hole on the top. The Polkaudio grill is tribute to my damaged PSW450 that died before its time and from no fault of its own. RIP PSW450
