Hello all,

I own a Niles Infrared Sensing Muting Volume Control MVC100IR White. I don't wish to hook this up with IR control for now, wish to use the auto muting control only. I wired so 12vcd to the G and V+ terminals (G - Ground / V+ positive) I hooked up amp and speakers, the volume control gets voltage ok because Blue LED flashes if it see's IR. I can't get the speakers to work nothing out, the button / LED doesn't go Green (ON) or Red (OFF). If this as a built-in speaker relay why doesn't this work, or does this need the MSU140 Infrared Main System Unit and if so why. What is this doing?

I think that one actually needs data to unmute. So there's the volume control, but it also has to be hit with the right serial data to turn on the audio signal.

Is the unmuting in the remote or ? If I added the IR controller it may control the source CD changer and or XM tuna the Amp and an old Pre / Pro receiver doesn't have any IR input / remote control.

Ok- that volume control has a switch on it; switch on: sound; switch off: no sound. I think the only way to change the state of the switch is over the data line. I don't think that the volume control responds to IR commands- it just passes them out over the data line to the master unit. However, it wouldn't hurt to try hitting it with a universal remote... just try out all the niles codes and see if you get anything. If that doesn't work, Ebay it and buy a normal volume control.

This Volume control is cool, but it kind of sucks due it's need for IR controller when someone doesn't need IR. Sucks because info doesn't really give you this input.

Doesn't say you need this IR input, on this page.

Say's you need 12v but you need a IR from 12v from IR control, not really clear (I'm an Electronic Technician) so when this say 12v I'm thinking 12v. Not 12v and DATA F'k.

Right on 100% right. I ordered and tried out a MCU480 controller 4 input with 8 IR outputs will be adding a pre-amp with I can turn on or off changed inputs. Looking sweet adding this on my porch by the pool.

Thanks again for your help.
