View Full Version : SDAs as Fronts in HT - problem or not?

Is anyone on the forum using the SDAs as front speakers in a HT setup? Does the SDA imaging effect become a problem with the surround speakers? I am wondering if the cancellations from the SDA will impact the sound from the surrounds.
I seem to have lost my interconnect cable, actually misplaced temporarily, and wanted to hear from the members who have heard the SDAs in HT with surrounds. Thanks.

I have no problems with the SDA surround ....but I am looking at doing a LSI setup for comparison.

You really need to find that cable.

I am currently using SDA SRS's as fronts in my HT. I have also used SDA 1C's as fronts and SDA 1C's and SDA CRS+'s as surrounds, all with the IC attached, with no problems.

Thanks for the responses. I found my interconnect cable and hooked it up. I noticed a big improvement in bass response. I haven't had a chance to see if the imaging effect is there yet, but the system sounds better overall. It is hard to believe I have owned these speakers for 20 years and they not only work, but still sound great. I can't see any reason to replace them in spite of my friends who tell me to get out of the '80s. I think I will upgrade the tweeters and buy an SVS sub for movies and ride these Polks until they break. If I haven't broken them yet then I doubt they ever will.

Welcome to the Club Polk Forums 94Cobra! I'm glad to see another Pittsburgher on the Forums!

I've been using SDA's in my HT rig and enjoyed every minute of it.

Thanks for the reply Carl. I'll bet there are a good amount of these older Polks still in use. Do you use a sub in your HT setup? If so, which one? I am looking into a SVSound sub at the moment. I do not use a center channel since my fireplace is between my SDAs.

I use SDA 2.3TL's for the front L/R and SDA 1C's for the rear L/R. Both have the IC connected, and both have the new RD tweets. The 2.3's have fresh re-built crossovers as well.

My center channel is home made using 2 MW6510's in parallel connected to the line, and 1 SL3000 tweet going through a self designed crossover. Center channel speakers costing $3000 dont sound as good as my home made Polk center. Powered by an Aragon amp

The sound is unmatched. Use lots of power.
For me, its Aragon 8008x3 for L/C/R and an Aragon 4004 MKii amp for Rear L/R.

Hi 94Cobra! I use an SVS NSD-12 subwoofer with my 2.3's. I have the sub low pass set at about 40 Hz.

Looks like you got a nice setup there. I hope you're still enjoying the SDA's.

Mike, if the SDA effect is distracting just unplug the interconnect.

Cool! I misunderstood your post. Too much travel and not enough sleep:( I'll bet that 2270 rocks those SDA's quite nice:D

Absolutely not a problem for HT. I watched Cars tonight and it reaffirmed my love for the SDA's.
