Hello everyone. I was hoping if someone could maybe give me a little advice. I currently have a Denon AVR-1905 receiver, Polk Rti-4 fronts, and Polk PSW-10 sub. I use my system mostly for music and general tv watching. I sometimes watch movies, but rarely, maybe 1 every 2 or 3 months.

Here is my question: I am considering purchasing a center channel speaker. I have my eye on the Polk Csi3. Would this be a good idea? My receiver manual states that for sources that are not broadcast in surround that no signal is sent to the center channel. There are some tv shows that are broadcast in surround, but I'm not sure how many. My fear is that I purchase the center speaker and then don't really get any use from it. Thanks everyone.

On your receiver, you can select surround modes for stereo TV broadcasts. Usually folks will use Pro Logic. This will actually put most of the sound in the center speaker. So bottom line - you would be able to get a lot of use from the center in either stereo or surround TV broadcasts.

However, for TV, I wouldn't consider adding a center to be a big upgrade over your 2-ch set-up. If you watched a lot of movies, I'd say go for the center and surround speakers.

phileth, you can also set your receiver to No center.. and it will send the center channel info to your left and right front speakers.. give that a try and if it sounds good enough to you.. don't get a center channel and save the money.

I watch quite a few movies/TV.. so a center channel speaker is a must have for me.
