How would a Non Hmdi tv look hooked up to HMDI receiver and Dvd player?

You would still use component from your display to AVR.

If your display can't support HDMI or DVI, then you can't take advantage of HDMI on your receiver.

Now, if your DVD player has HDMI and your AVR has HDMI then you could connect the two that way.
