I'm a noob to this.
I take Amps are what I place between the receiver and speaker to bring out their full potentials. Any good recommendations or some good read?

How about a little more info on what you have now and why you think you need an amp.

Welcome to the forum. It's like purchasing anything else (car, boat, house, speakers....). What's the budget?

hmmm I don't really know. It's hard to set a budget when I know so little about amps. All I know is my receiver will be inadequent to run a pair of LSI25. I can probably get a good deal on LSI for around 2k/pair.

How guess an amp is the last piece of consideration I need for a system. Pair of LSI25 for 2k I think is pretty reasonable, but if it takes a thousand dollar amp to run them, then I might back down to some lesser speakers.

It won't take $1000 necessarily in an amp to run them, but you will likely find that you are going to want to spend more than the minimum to power them.

sigh~
I might have to ease off the LSI25. Amps to power something 4ohms are sure expensive ><

Older carvers will work and can be had on the cheap pretty much anywhere.
Good luck!

if you want a cheap solution you can get a pro amp which has tons of power and use your receiver as a pre. i got mine new for 200 on a clearance sale and it has 275 watts/ch in 4 ohms.

ps ive heard lsi 15's are better? someone correct me if im wrong and you can definitely find cheaper than 2k for a pair of lsi25's if you search the used market (dont know if you are going used or not).

Cheap is not necessarily better. I wouldn't want to run my speakers off of an amplifier that is meant to run concert speakers! Home equipment for home gear!

Just be patient, save more money & get what you really want! You will be truly satisfied without second thoughts later on!

More expensive isn't necessarily better either.

There are tons of people that use pro amps with good results. There is nothing wrong with it. Pro-amps IMO are the best kept secret in HT to get the added power you need.

I've known and heard people on several forums that have done a double-blind test with very expensive amps and pro-amps and could not tell the difference.

Mike...and some claim the pro amps exceed some very high end gear. I was sure tempted based on some folks experience, but I wimped out on a used Carver TFM 35 ;) ...waiting shipment confirmation.

Is Pro Amp a brand or a style of amplifiers?

seesh most of these amps are about as efficient as CFA and TWTs. Never thought I would be considering running such a beast at home. I guess with winter coming its a good time to put a couple of 1kW amplifiers to warm the place up.
