So here's the deal. I'm working on an X-mas list (Yes, I'm 18, it's the only way to let my mom know what I want so go ahead and laugh). I would like to get a new receiver/separates/amp no preamp for my system. I am planning on getting an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 or 196 soundcard to maximize my music collection, editing and also use my CDP cause spinning a disc is so much better.
So, here is where my predicament comes in. First, which soundcard should I get? One is 24 bit 96khz with RCA outs. The other is 196khz and has balanced TRS 1/4" output. Should I go ahead and buy the 196 in case I get an amp that can accept balanced inputs later?
Also, what should I get in the way of amps etc. The limit is a MAX of 400. And I would like it to be nice enough so I can upgrade other parts (like my speakers) without needing to change the backend.
My current system is an old CDP and some RT5 speakers (I do not know the efficiency) hopefully to be upgraded to a BADA HD-22 .
To sum up, nice integrated, seaprates or amp/no preamp that will last me awhile and is under 400$
Thanks, Jack
