I was just wondering about this amp since a buddy of mine has one to sell for $80.00 and I was wondering if it's worth it...

It is for that price. It's a decent 5 channel for a small room HT. IIRC it has different outputs for mains, center, and surrounds, but they will all have the same sonic signature.

You can probably find someone in the Carver Forum (http://www.carveraudio.com/default2.htm) who owns one.

Yeah, I would certainly get it for $80.

One just sold on CL for about $350 IIRC.

I had the 705 and it performed flawlessly. For the 80.00 it's a good deal. Now it all depends on what your going to use it with. They do have the cheap speaker connections on the back though, and are easy to break if you try to muscle it.AND...oh crap ...just get it!!!:D

I have tonyb's amp now and like it. It performs similarly to my Rotel RB991 rated at a much higher power. But I agree they cut corners on the binding posts and the potentiometers which adjust the individual channel volumes.

I used this for 3 years and then sold it to a fellow polkie. It is a pretty decent amp and a no brainer at $80
