Does anyone run 7.1 surround since most material is 5.1. I will be wiring our house for surround this weekend, so I will be under the house pulling the wire for the surround speakers and for Zone 2 (living room speakers), and I am trying to decide whether to go ahead and pull the wire for the 2 rear surround speakers to handle 7.1. I can use the speakers that I was going to use for those 2 extra surrounds elsewhere in the house.

Any thoughts? We are making big changes with the house. The last time I did HT work we were before DVDs and I was stoked about how awsome pro logic was. I have never even heard a 7.1 set-up so I am not sure if it is more hype than substance.

Run it. even if you don't use it now, if you change your mind they will be there waiting for you.

exactly as Cathy said.. run it.. no one says you have to go 7.1 i think a lot of people run 5.1, 6.1 and of course some run 7.1 but material is limted.

all i do is listen to everything in 7.1. sucks having to scroll through my soundfield settings to get to plxII since everything is stuck in 5.1 la-la land. c'mon technological evolution........hurry up!

Run the wire while you have the chance.

just don't run any wire any thinner than cooked spaghetti.

I wouldn't run it. 5.1 fits the bill for me.

Better to be proactive than reactive. Go for it.

do it. If I had the chance I would, and all I have right now is a 5.1 avr

Most people i see eating spaghetti, they are the size of earthworms. Only angle hair for me.

Went from 5.1 to 6.1 to 7.1 - that was four years ago and i have never looked back. Seeing a system without side and rear surrounds seems VERY odd to me now...........

I agree.

I will frequently switch to stereo, x6.1 (no center) and occasionally 4.1 (no center or surround). But I never use 5.1, 7.1 is better.

Thanks all for your advice. I will go ahead and pull the wire. For those that expressed concern, it will be 12ga wire (from Blue Jeans, so not super elite stuff but ought to work well enough for my ears.):)

and you can thank us later when you utilize it as well. at that point, go ahead and pat yourself on the back for having been 'proactive' as michael/janmike suggested.

and scott, i'm gonna try to enjoy my next plate of spaghetti whilst clearing my mind of the thought of earthworms!

If you don't run it 7.1 will be the standerd next month. If you do, it will be years but you'll be set. Murphy's law.

Do you run the 7.1 with your RX-V2500? I just bought that unit on sale @ Tweeter and will be installing over the weekend. Do you like the unit, I will be running RTi4s and Monitor 30s (front & surround) with R15 as the rear. I assume the 2500 has enough power, but I was curious to know what you think.

I should have read this before My last post. You have plenty of power to run those speakers. You won't have problems with anything unti you get up to the Rti12's. I had a set of rti6's and they sounded nice. I assume the 4's will also.If you running the 4's as mains make sure you get an i series center and not the monitor series. You want like a CSi3 0r csi5.

P.S. sorry about the post hi-jack.

No problem. I have an older CSi30. It used to match to the RTi28 and 38, so I am assuming it will go ok with the 4s.
