Is the Toshiba HD-xa1 worth 500.00? Or would it be better to wait till the new ones arrive? I thought the 1 st gen players had a lot of problems, but its a lot cheaper than 800.00. I think the 2 new ones are 1000.00 & 500.00 thanks

i have the hd-a1 and have no problems with it other than the slow turn on time and load time of hd-dvd. if you can handle waiting 30 seconds or so, then go for it. for me it was worth it for the price i got. Also, the first gen players are very good at CD playback. not sure the second generation will be as good.

If I'm reading the rebate form right, you don't have to get the 3 free movies. I'm thinking about this one as well.......

What is the difference between tha A1 and the XA1?

About $200.

No seriously, the XA1 has a motorized front door, backlit remote, RS-232 port and better shielding.

Specwise, they're identical.

BIZILL, thanks for sharing the info on onecall.com. I've called vanns.com if they can price match but unfortunately they can't so I just cancelled my order from vanns.com and place a new one to onecall.com.

You save me $68, thanks again.

I might have jumped the gun on this one. After doing a little more evaluation, I don't really "need" this as much as I thought.

It is on the way, but I'm thinking of returning it. If anyone wants it for the same price I paid, $399. I'll even pay for the shipping, and I can get the person the 3 free hd-dvd's as well. If nobody is interested, I'll just return it.

Okay, I've been toying with the idea of gettinga HD-DVD/Blue-Ray player.

I wondering if I should just get one of the 20gb PS3s or one of these Toshibas,

What's your opinions? I doubt, that other than the boys playing the PS# on occasion, that I would, but it would be cool to have a PS3.

Now the big ? is, which is the format to buy...Blu-Ray or HD-DVD???

Need to know soon if possible, as i might have a chance of getting a PS3 at reg price, 20 or 60, they won't know till the truck gets there.

I hope you're prepared to wait a long time. The HD-DVD vs. BR format war will not have a winner for at least a year, in my opinion.

For $159 ($40 off coupon at Circuit City) the HD-DVD Add-on for the Xbox 360 has been selling out in many locations.

I've got both HD-DVD and BR, and thus far, I think the movie selection has been MUCH better on the HD-DVD side, especially if you're into classics at all...

Ordered mine on Monday and I just received it a few hours ago. Fast delivery from OneCall I have to say. I'm moving the A1 to upstairs into HT room and this is going to be on family room.

All I have to say, don't wait, get yours now, HD-DVD is definately worth the money. Especially since NetFlix and Blockbuster rent HD-DVD (and Blu-ray).

I am not sure if they rent them at the store (most likely not) but both NetFlix and BlockBuster offer them on their online rentals.

I couldn't find any HD-DVD's by searching their site but NetFlix has quite a few:
