So, I'm building a little system for my bro's apartment, and all I really need at this point is a cheap DVD player with digital out (SACD and 5.1 out would be nice) and a small subwoofer. I've already gone over my budget and I'm trying to go real cheap on these last two, probably ebaying them both.

I come across this subwoofer while doing a localized ebay search. With a 60 wpc RMS amp and 8" downfiring, I'm calling bull$hit on the low end response of 25 hz. Does this thing seem fishy to anyone else?

Since they are local (no shipping costs) and going for only $50-60, I thought I might try one out. But, if it's some BS whitevan speaker company, I'd rather just get something from partsexpress with free shipping that I know will work.

Anyone have thoughts or experience with this company?

I'd be pretty skeptical of that subwoofer. Looks like one you get in a Walgreens HTiB set-up, but I could be wrong.

I can recommend some gear I had in the past. The Athena AS-P300 is a great cheap subwoofer. I got mine for $99. Here's one on ebay:

Also, I'd recommend the Pioneer DV-578a universal player. Plays everything very well for the price. Here's a used one for $100:

Good luck.
