Due to some problems I had ordering through a company I was to obtain a AMC-1100 pre-amp from..... my system still lacks this critical component.

What I currently have is:

(2) Polk Audio RT2000ps
(1) Carver M200t amp
(1) AMC CD6 deck
and *shudders*
typical speaker wire. (I took out the 12 gauge lowes wire)

I hold some reserves about purchasing online still, though I still have my eye on Q-Audios Conrad Johnson PV-7 *for about $429..
But I hear that pre-amp is more made for classical music...

Right now Im looking for a decent pre-amp to compliment my Carver, but really dont want to go above $450.00.

The cables are last on the list. I have my eyes set on the brand "Transparent".. But that may be a good 2-3 months away before Im willing to lay down that big chunk of money for cables.

Any advice would be appreciated. Keeping my eyes on Ebay as well. haha

Does(i'm sure)Carver have a matching preamp for the amp you own?

Thats where Id start my search.

When you invest into Transparent,to gauge the level of wire you need is pretty simple.About 20% for the entire retail cost of your rig should be about the cost of wire needed.

Its there theory,I feel it's more like salesman **** but it does make sense when you look at the level of wire you get for that price.

For youe system,Id use Music link interconnects and Musicwave,or music wave plus speaker wire. The **** isn't cheap but the sound quality can't be matched.....thats just about a fact over an opnion.

Mantis,

That was the first thing I did, unfortunately it seems as if the pre-amps for Carver are rather low-end. Not to say that what I own is high-end, Im simply not sure if it will compliment the current rig well at all.

As for cable, all I would need is roughly 8 feet total of it. This upgrade may have to wait until fall though. I will first see if there is any difference using the new stuff, vice what I once had. I will check into music link and musice wave.

ATC,

I'm not ed zachry sure what you mean by low-end as far as the preamps go......look on audiogon or ebay, find you a good used C-2 and be done with it. That would be my recommendation anyway.

You got me with the low end thing,
If they made the amp, the preamp is designed to run that amp.I don't follow the low end stuff you posted.

Sorry for the confusion boys. Will try to put this in a better way.

From what I have read thus far *which is all I can base anything by at the moment*.... the carver amps are known to be pretty decent. But their pre-amps, seem to be another story. This is why I considered their amps "high end" vice, their pre-amps which I called "low end". Bad lingo on my part.

Im simply trying to purchase something that is garaunteed to function well, would be reliable and produce great sound. Im expecting to hear a major difference going from a reciever to this rig.
