The Monarchy 18B and Adcom GDA-700 are extremely nice units and if you could pick them up under $300 that would be a steal.
Anyone looking at the Monarchy ask the seller if it's had the piggyback upgrade, if so, even more reason to buy it.

Thanks Russ... I'll let you know if I decide to zero in on a particular piece. Other than that, have at it.
Let me know if you decide to chase one down as well so I can back off.
H9 - the 18B has been going for pennies on the dollar of late. I saw one scooped up for $130 in mint condition recently. Don't ask me why I didn't jump. Okay... I'm just not in the market for a pre right now and I feel I wouldn't be getting the most out of it if used solely as a DAC. Don't know if it had the piggyback upgrade. That being said, I haven't seen one go over $300 in a hot minute.

I hear ya ZB, last time I looked at an 18B seriously was about 5 years ago and they could fetch anywhere from $275-400 so I guess maybe $300 today would be a bit high for the 18B.
Don't sell yourself short it's an outstanding DAC even by today's standards and if you ever run across another one at a bargain $$$ snatch it up, eff the pre section. It's still a great value if used only for Dac duties.
Final word is it's probably already bid up to what a good bargain $$$ would be so perhaps it's best to move along ;)
