Will ship with original Chinese 6N3P's (4), use these for the headphone output, plus a NOS pair (2) of Western Electric 396A. This player may be used sans preamp and plays standard Red Book and HDCD. Digital, analog (op amp - 2 x dual 2604), tube, and headphone output.

$1300, shipped CONUS with an added pair of NOS Bendix Redbank 6385's, the "holy grail" tube for Shanling owners, with original boxes AND a second spare pair of Bendix Redbank 6385's in generic white boxes. These tubes are rated for 10,000+ hours design life and both pair have approximately 500 hours on them. Just a heads up: If you buy this player, you won't know what it's truly capable of until you've heard it with Bendix 6385's. They have not been in production since the late '60s and avarage $125-150 a copy if/when you can find them.

Cash, check, MO, Paypal (split the 3% lug, CCs okay).

A couple of reviews (this is the later A model sans the gold trim):

Yes, or unfortunately yes, depending on ones point of view. You would only have to hear them to get the answer to your question.

These tubes were manufactured by an obscure division of Bendix Aviation Corporation. They made tubes for military applications, like ICBM's (missiles), aircraft and industrial use. The plant in which they were made was called Bendix Red Bank Division, in Eatontown, New Jersey. They were not made for audio, but they ARE the best tubes ever made from the standpoint of reliability, consistency and physical toughness. Pdf doc on 6385 tubes. (http://www.the-planet.org/pdf/6385s.pdf)

This player has both looks and sound covered. Congrats.

I hear ya. The nest is empty here and my finger still cramped for a moment at the buy button when I bought a pair of 6900's. And I got a good deal on them.

You are set in regards to a source though. Having something that looks that kewl and sounds so good. Definitely a lights out listening experience.

Great! I'll email you around 10:30 a.m. I'm headed out the door for a torture session on my wrecked shoulder. :(

The tubes aren't going anywhere. Somewhere down the line, if you want one or more pair, we'll work it out. In the mean time, you won't need to buy a pre right away (if you're just doing CDs as a source). This player has a most excellent remote volume and can drive any amp I've had around here to perfection.

Thanks!

Edit: BTW - It will ship, as stated, with the pair of WE 396As--another highly regarded tube for this player--plus the stock Chinese 6N3Ps.

Whoa, Sid!!

I'm impressed with your component selections. You're putting together an absolutely killer reference system. My friend has this CDP and it sounds great. Don't bother with the stock tubes, though. (BTW -- he's running Taylo Reference Monitors on them.)

You absolutely cannot shove this CDP in one of your TV stand racks. The Shanling is literally a work or art, so it's gotta be displayed as such.

As Blue indicated, no pre is needed, so you actually bought two components with one purchase.

Oh yeah, Trey, it also comes with the original Shanling branded IEC power cord which is very high quality and a demo CD of an amazing Chinese orchestra with percussion that's out of this world dynamic.

If you know Trey, it isn't how much he makes its how much he saves. He's one of those young guys here that seems to have his head screwed on straighter than most. He knows what he wants and works hard to go right after it & make it happen.

Nice snag Trey.......

Sid --

I really like how you're going straight for top notch gear. I shoulda done that three years ago. Woulda saved some time and money. It shows you've put in enough years in this hobby to understand the virtue of patience. It's certainly a wise decision, and you can use the same approach in other areas of your life.

I'm done preachin'. Your system, once it's assembled, will sound superb. So hurry up and get those Taylos so you can tell us all about it.

Hey guys...

Thanks for all the comments... Im looking forward to this...

Sadly this thing will have to go in my rack... but still very viewable...

I just dont have enough room to display it adequately... buit it will go where my odyssey is now...so...yeah

Haha, and thanks for all the comments - weird since most of you guys have known since I was 12...

But Im enjoying my job at Music N' More and the company is really growing... we are doubling the size of the PA Department this year though, so I got my work cut out for me...

But, I really like it and cant complain for a part time job that could easily lead into something bigger...

Triple-boxed and ready to go. Those pics I posted don't do it justice. It even feels good when you pick it up. :D

I gotta' tell you Trey, this is the only piece of gear through here that Sandy has ever asked "why are you selling that! I like it, it's beautiful."

This is where I gotta draw the line. At his age while music was cool, the gear was merely "necessary". Blowin' money on several skirts at that time in my life was the best investment I ever made. I now can afford just about any piece of audio gear I want. There isn't enough money to recreate the good times with "skirts" that cost a mere pittance in my youth. My advice is chase the skirts while it's cheap. They only get more expensive as you get older.

Trey is a Jedi with self mutila...I mean pleasure. Rumor has it, he can switch hands and gain a stroke.

Get the gear son, Penthouse will run you $8 or so at the local news stand, and only take a couple minutes out of your listening time. Focus man, focus.

Cheers,
Russ

Did Sid ever posts his thoughts on the player?

Nice player, player.
