Monitor 10B upgrades and/or recommendations?

These have the original of what I think is the silver coil tweeter. The dome has the clear look to it basically. What about upgrading the crossovers? What would be some tweaks that you guys would do if they were yours and were bone stock? I think they sound great but I am one to tinker! lol

upgrade the tweeters and the crossovers if you are a handyman with that type of stuff. tweeters are just a drop in replacement. but a good improvement. when you call Polk Audio to order them. tell them you are a Club Polk member first.

the crossovers would be more involved.. but yield good sonic improvements from what I am told by the people who have done them.

Ditto replace the caps in the crossover with some quality caps. Caps deteriorate over the years. Some people like the "detail" in the stock tweeters, but I thinks they are harsh and fatiguing at higher levels. I replaced some of my tweets with silk dome and they sound much nicer to me. Good luck, and if you have any further questions you can PM me, and I would be more than glad to point you in the right direction for the wiring diagrams that have the proper values for the caps.

The veneer is darn near perfect. One of the grills is good to go but the other is missing the logo and it's slightly broken...but fixable. I'm going to strip both of them and redo 'em. No biggie for me...I love projects. The male grill snaps were completely broken on one speaker and 2 were gone on the other. To keep the grills on, they glued wood dowels in the holes to keep them centered and used velcro! Oh well..got the new male grill snaps and will be doing that tomorrow most likely.

I might redo the crossovers before doing the tweeters just to see what these sound like first. After 25 years in home and car A/V stuff, my upper end hearing is not what it used to be. I need all the help I can get! ha. What do the tweeters cost? I've heard something like $48 to $50 each? That's not too bad.

I'm going to try to build some stands for them this weekend, too. I have some spare wood and stain plus, it's cool weather in Texas right now! Also a good time to use the new air compressor my inlaws bought me! Too many projects with too little time. Especially since I leave Friday for Vegas for the CES show...fun fun. (ugh)

The Dayton caps from Parts express are pretty decent caps. Some folks like the Solens, I prefer the Sonicaps but they cost 3 - 4 times as much.

Has anyone rebuilt the crossover in these? I've searched threads but I may have missed it. I'm just looking for the parts list if possible. It's legible enough on a couple of the caps but not on what looks like a yellow poly or film cap. Any help greatly appreciated!

In the Troubleshooting forum there is a sticky of all Polk x-over schematics in PDF format. Knock yourself out :D

Make notes and do 1 x-over at a time. Check and re-check the layout before you start soldering. The new parts will most likely be much larger so plan ahead
