I hooked up the RT55i`s w/ AQ type 4 cables, Parasound HCA-3500, Cary 2002 pre amp, and the Nak tuna..
Oh and using the SVS PB-10..

Sounds like crap..

Very sibilant....crap

switched to the Lsi 9`s...

Still sounds like crap..

I`m very embarrased with all the friends and family over..

everybody say`s..."oh It sound great"!

Bullcrap...sound like sh*t..

I`m tempted to toss it all, and start over

Happy friggen New Year..........

I've had that same feeling; some days everything just sounds like crap...just have a couple more beers/wine/rum or whatever you are drinking and everything will sound just perfect.

Happy New Year.

Your hearing still works and you can try new gear. Things could be worse, your friends could be complimenting you on a Bose system.

If you decide to toss it all, dibs on the Cary pre-amp :D ;)

Are you using some cheap powerstrip to plug them all in? The HCA-3500 will need a lot of clean power to do it's best. You'll need something rated for 1800+ watts with 14awg cord. :(

It's funny man. Some days it rocks and some days it sucks. I go threw the same thing. My rig is the very best it's ever been and there are still days I want it all out. I come in expecting it to rock my world then it sucks my ass. Other days it sounds so god damn good.

Take a step back.

Hey Bear,if you have other cables in the House maybe you could give them a try.if you were running either the Ah!4000 or Jolida JD 100 CD player's as a source i dont think either one would cause your system to sound overly bright!i listened for Hours to the Cary 2002 tube Preamplifier at Marks house and thought it was a really nice Pre so i dont think that is the problem either.in my experience the Lsi 9's are the nicest sounding loudspeaker in the Lsi lineup and they didnt sound overly bright either, the Parasound HCA-3500 has a good reputation but i have zero experience with it or the Polk RT55i's.a problem with clean power or cables would be my guess.i think your components would probably have a good Synergy together otherwise. good luck....WCW III

Go listen to the radio in the car for an hour and then come back and listen to your rig. Bear, I think we all go through this from time to time. Moods will alter how you hear things. I know it does for me. Relax, everything is ok.

Audioquest type 4 have a tendency to be a little over-bearing (no pun intended) in the treble. I speak from personal experience on that situation. Try a different speaker cable--just try some generic 12awg stuff first, see if you notice a change...

Keep in mind, that if you had a lot of people in the room it will change the sound a lot.

Okay, this what happened...

I went back in and turned it down a little (about 8 o`clock), and it sounded like somebody through a blanket over the speakers...

Then POW...a bright flash , then Bzzzzz..crackle....out of the pre amp

....right channel went into protection mode on the amp.....

I stood back in amazment, and told everybody to get the hell back , or go out back onto the patio...just go away, until this problem could be delt with....and another tall scotch could be consumed...:D

I disconnected everything, and went piece by cable to find the problem...

Had I not had half a bottle of Green Label Johnny Walker, I could have save a lot of time...!!

The volume control board on the volume knob had moved with the dial and was touching the other board and resisters/caps behind it..

I staightened it up , tightened it down , fired her back up.....

Magic baby ....!!

I had both SVS`s and the 9`s ROCkIN The New Year In, at about, between 10 & 11 on the dial (ricter scale)......

I was blaming the cables, the the Tuna , this , that...then just got pissed

and embarrased....

after everybody drooling over my rig, then to not even be able to listen to it...
had to listen to a boom box , was well.....?

unfriggen acceptable

Long story short...

It was the pre amp, but problem sol-ved..

she was back up to standards, and soundin sweet till about 3 am..!!!

thanks for all the help and support fellas........no need to box her up and send her to a detention facility just yet....(RT1);)

but thanks for the offer....

I figured out the problem....problem fixed !

I just need to do some tightening up/maintainence on some of my gear...

My SS rig sounds pretty damn good , if I do say so myself..!!

Jesse has heard it...it aint no slouch, but like with any rig...there is always room for improvement...

and I am constantly up grading were possible/affordable.....
It`s a never ending quest for perfection, but I sometimes forget to enjoy what I have, because I`m always trying to get "better"

I need a second job...
