Found this amp @ MCM electronics and was wondering if it's a good buy to power up my Monitor 12's

I dont know man, in this case, power is not the issue, its sound quality. Most think there are no Pro amps with the sound quality a home audiophile demands. I think there is, but it has to be a damn good pro amp. I dont know if that one fits the bill. its a crap shoot.

for a monitor 12, and a 200 budget, go used. Rotel rb980 120 watts into 8 ohms, 200 into 4 would be fine for those 12's. Parasound is a good brand to look at used in that prise range as well. seems like they have been going relativly cheap lately on Ebay and the 'Gon.

want a little more beef?, used Carver would fit the bill. TFM line, or a m1.5 or 4.0 (I love mine)

Ok. I have to throw my $.02 in since I have one. Find a good used Carver amp. The M1.0t on my Monitor 10b's is a delight to listen to no matter what the music. But some others would be the M.05t, M200t, M500t, and the TFM series. I know there are more but that's all memory brings up. I just love the sound of my 1.0t even though people say it wasn't one of their better ones. I guess I will have to find another model to make a fairt comparison! Keep an eye out on Ebay for them. Some are had reasonably.

Thanks man!

I was wondering myself if a PA amp would be warm enough... I think I'll go browse ebay and see what's on there!

So the 12's are ok with 4 ohms? That's nice to know. That way my options aren't as limited!

As somebody stated earlier! Welcome to the hobby to me! It's a mazing how much these Polks have changed my listening...

Don't let that be the only amp you look at, though. There are MANY other great amplifiers out there that others will chime in with. Years ago, you used to see a lot of stores that sold Polk speakers also sold Carver and Harmon Kardon as well. Just keep your options open and be patient.

looking for warm? oh you definitly want to avoid the pro amps :D

avguytx has some good advise, I forgot to mention the M200t, M500t amps. heard both, good solid amps. prices might not be as inflated as the tfm and m*.*t lines have been lately (inflated, but still worth it in my opinion)

I would say, avoid the one that looks like a cube, I believe its the m400? never heard it, but have heard mixed reviews with some very knowlegable guys here saying to avoind. following there advise has served me well, so I figured i'd pass on that knowlege to you.

good luck, and keep us posted
