Hello. My name is Robert and I'm new to this Polk forum. Seems like a lot of nice (informed) people out there. I would like a couple of opinions on the system I'm putting together along with suggestions on up-grading power for my new receiver (if needed). I have a new Pioneer VSX1016TXV-k 7.1 120 watts per channel. Two Polk RTi12 tower speakers (front) ordered (not here yet). I have a Polk CS400i center channel speaker and four Polk Monitor 40 series speakers for surround. A Sony 10" 100watt powered subwoofer finishes it. I love movies but my true passion is definitly music. Does this sound decent? Do you think that the Pioneer receiver will put out enough power to drive all of these speakers? Thank you in advance for any feed-back.

Robert

Welcome to the club ...

- The receiver probably isn't enough to drive the 12's to their potential. There are of course loads of amps to choose from to drive either just the mains or your full front sound stage or all your speakers.
- Once the 12's are properly driven, that particular sub may not add much to them. You might want to look at the subs from HSU or SVS if you are wanting more bass.
- The CSi5 is probably a better match for the 12's.

If your passion is music I suspect most here will tell you that in the Polk lines the LSi's are preferable.

Welcome, the Pioneer will do fine at low/mid volume, but the RTi 12s really deserve high current power to sound their best. This is easily achieved with the preamp outputs from your receiver into a separate amp as your next upgrade to your new system.

Thank you Dennis & Polkwannabie for your feed-back. I'm just learning and the info really helps. Some of my system was given to me so it's a good start. Thanks again.
