Has anyone tried this product yet?

http://www.audioadvisor.com/prodinfo.asp?number=EBHUMX

It's supposed to get rid of ground loop hums and other nuisances without screwing with the signal. The product can be puchased for $59 elsewhere all over the net.

Thanks.

Not familiar w/that one, but I have the Mondial Magic ($99) and it's great--- it also doesn't degrade your TV picture.

Where did you buy the Mondial Magic from?

Umm...that was a long time ago...I think I ordered from the Klipsch website, or possibly AudioAdvisor.

I'm about 99% certain that hum-x is just a GFCI outlet with the ground lifted. Basically it's a UL-approved, safe cheater plug. Save yourself some money and get a good GFCI outlet and just don't hook up the ground wire.

Got the MAGIC hooked up today and I must say it made a hufe difference. It virtually eliminated any hum. Only if I put my ear up the speaker do I hear it.

The down side is that you can't use it to split off to your computer. My cable modem wouldn't pick up the ethernet signal so I had put the CATV splitter back in the path then use a jumper to add the MAGIC.

Ok, not trying to hijack this thread....but.... I have a related situation regarding hum.

I just hooked up the cdp and the receivers preouts into the passive preamp. I get a hum ONLY when both sets of inputs are in and the CDP and receiver are on. This is with both pieces on but idle or during music playback as well. In both cases hum increases with volume.

The hum is not exclusive to the corresponding input. When playing music in input 1 or two I can also hear very faint music/hum if I switch to the opposing input. Is this "crosstalk"? Should "some" be expected or is something wrong here?

So neither piece produces it when they are the only input put the CDP (or some set of circumstances including the cdp create this hum) when the two are inputted at once.

What do you guys think, is something wrong with this preamp?

Thanks,
Rich

Is the system connected to the television or any video device?

If so, unplug your cable line from the wall and voila.

Get an EMI/RFI filtering power strip (i.e. Monster Clean Power) that has a cable filtering section and it will pass the signal without the ground problem.
