I've been looking everywhere for a stand that will accomodate my CS400i center channel speaker (as it's 8 5/8" high) on the middle shelf of a TV System (and I'm not having any luck)

Is it nuts to think about placing the center channel speaker on the top shelf of a stand and in turn, place a 40" LCD TV w/ base on top of the speaker, and leaving me with the center shelf to place my components which is what it's made for?

Would the vibrations from the speaker. screw up the TV? OR....Is this just a crazy idea I'm thinking of at 3 in the AM?

Am I nuts or..............

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
brentski

I'm thinking your tv only weighs 55/65 lbs. As long as it's stable enough and you're not sliding it around (scratch the veneer) you're probably fine. Vibrations from a center that size aren't really going to affect anything. Just make sure your tv won't tip over if you bump it. Not sure what tv you have but some tv stands are sketchy as is. Samsung pedestals are notoriously wobbly.

Big vote of no.

The placement should not be an issue, but I would not use the pedestal base for your tv. Is there any way to adapt a wall mount to acutally suspend the TV in the air above the center channel?

Personally I would not place it on the center channel (to much to lose if it tips over) but putting the TV above the center should not be a problem.

Go ahead and place the TV on your center channel. As long as it's stable, there shouldn't be a problem.

Add a barrier between the TV and center channel to prevent scratches. Maybe some felt fabric or some of that rubber stuff used to line cabinets.

Yeah, i think the biggest issue would be stability.

I wouldn't do it.. the speaker may rumble is off the center channel and onto the floor.. and TV go bye bye,

My guess is that the continue vibrations from the speaker would eventually cause out of focus or convergence problems. Or maybe other issues with internal components. No speaker is vibration proof.

I would not put it on my center speaker. There is definitely vibrations with mine. Why can't it be mounted to the wall?

Focus and convergence? On an LCD?

It's a veneered cs400i... as long as he has something in between the two he won't do any damage to either componnent. If it were say an lsiC I'd say no because the finish is too easy to mess up. Obviously it's not a great idea but if he's very very careful placing the tv onto it I think it'll be fine. My sub shakes my tv more from 5 feet away than my center would if I placed it on top...

Or if you have minimal woodworking skills, build an "A" frame. |^^^^|
