It sounds as good as any <$2000 player I've heard, and not as good as a >$5000 player. ;)

I'm glad it arrived in fine shape, Trey. The WE396As are barely broken in and should sound great. The non-tube CD output in this unit is exceptional as well. Enjoy!

Sid --

You're dangling dangerously at the precipice of audio's high end. Man 'o man, I can't wait until you get the Taylos in the house. You just might pee on yourself with joy.

Congrats!!! I know you're gonna love it.

P.S. -- let me know if you need a Barry White CD 'cause when the chicks come to your room and you show them your tubes, they'll want to hear some "get me in the mood" music.

The RT55 while a good speaker - is so outclassed right now...

But the rig still sounds excellent - the cdp tube output stage finally got warmed up....

Excellent move. One day I expect to listening to the Sidkid Styler Ver3 player.

Funny I read if someone spent $500 bucks for a remote, and you invite someone like myself in their home.... That people needs to have their head examined. ;)

so then spending more that 300 just for tax is........................reason for brain surgery.

This player offers a portal to hi-fi, to what is possible, the start of the last 10% or so where I have found the tones that excite the ear bones and everything down the chain.

Is there a way to turn off the blue light? I do not know..

Im kind of worried about wearing the blue light out as I never turn off my CD player since I have never owned one with an off/stand by button ---

I dont like booting my gear up every time I want to listen.

But the blue light is not very bright, its very soft - and relaxing. However, I mostly listen with my eyes closed... brain need not be in the mix when I listen to music I say.

Most tube gear needs to warm up to sound their best.
Kinda like when your with a girl, you don't go from 0-home plate
right away. It's called foreplay...and it works for audio too!!:)
Congrats btw.

WilliamM2

I wouldn't worry about it burning out. LED's have an average lifespan of 100,000 hours, or 11.4 years if left on constantly.

They are also cheap, and easy to replace if it does burn out.

The transport platter light is a blue LED, probably good for 50K+ hours continuous. Easily replacable if ever required. The track/function display is, as I recall, able to be dimmed. As you noted, neither is glaring or annoying.

I suggest leaving it on all the time if you want the WE396A to sound their best.

Do you have any HDCD encoded discs? I believe that demo CD has some, if not all, tracks HDCD encoded.

Hey Shiz,
I will post more comments on this player...

But I dont feel I can adequately do that with the RT55 as the front man to this sytem. I dont believe they have the characteristics to truly distinguish between higher end gear as the Taylos will.

The Cambridge sounded very similar to my Onix, so I will let you guys know.

:)
