Just received a Isonic as a gift & the unit even when off seems to run quite warm. Have even removed a cd after a couple hours with the unit off & the cd was warm. My question is this unusual...

My Isonic stays warm to the touch if you place your hand on the top of the unit. Just make sure the back vents are not blocked. They are really nice units, most of us agree if you place some cones or small rubber squares or pucks under the unit to get it off the table a bit the sound is even better.

I'm a bit biased, but its not unusual. Put a laptop on your lap when you have shorts on and you'll feel what warm can be............ :)

Agreed, it does run warm but it doesn't seem to cause any problems...

I do this with warm apple pie.......nevermind....
There is a problem with my laptop and it gets too hot to even touch on the bottom. It has gotten so hot that it has actually caused a red hue to develop on the screen. Oh well, POS anyway.
Back on topic, if you feel it is getting too hot how about calling polk and see if you can exchange it or atleast get their opinion.

On you laptop go find a laptop cooler called Targus plugs in usb port will solve the problem. I know this about any electonics & that's heat is it's enemy. Seems that Polk designed this with alot of venting as you can see the circuit board on the bottom & has venting in the back. Bottom line for me is this is too new of a product (and not cheap) & the design is still an unknown but IMHO this is going back. When a unit is off there should not be any heat being conducted, I see this being a problem going forward & uncomfortable with the design of the unit. Yes sounds great but I don't need it going back a year from now. However thanks for all your imput...

How about calling polk and asking them?
"Hot" is a relative term and what may seem scalding to you may be normal for the products cool down. I.E. polk may say the product will be room temp after 2-3 minutes?
I guess I am a bit confused....are you coming back hours later with the product off and it is still warm?

I turn it off at night & in the morning the back top of the unit is warm to the touch & when I removed the cd, it was between warm & hot. Seems as if something is always on internally...I talked to Tweeter who carries it &they say that's normal...I just tried calling Pol they're closed because of the Holiday...

Considering the isonic has a clock/alarm clock I assume despite the product being "off" it will always be "on" whether or not you want it to be.
Definately talk to polk before you return it.
My parents have the bose wave, similiar product, with the clock always on and that product is always warm.

your talking about lifting the unit further off the table surface, what did you use?

I used some 2 inch square rubber blocks I had laying around.
Getting the unit up a bit will help the bass response.

thanks,you have helped alot, relieved me worrying about the warmth of the unit when off & yea using some home made feet currently does increase the bass response, thanks...

should you have problems, I assure you that Polk's CS is second to none. However the heat issue is really no big deal.

I've used Polk speakers back in the late 70's-80's & yes CS is top notch. I live in Maryland & on a move had a damaged driver & took it right to the service folks here & they just replaced it on the spot . Can't get any better than that. Moved to a condo some years back & was glad Polk has a smaller system that gives me the sound I like it really is a good sounding unit...

So, the Isonic... how do you like it? Happy with what you hear? I havn't heard it first hand (yet) but I understand it's pretty damn good at what polk does best.

very good, for a table top unit excellent sound & good lows. The adjustments to bass & treble make it especially nice, HD radio works fine...I'm into blues (electric modern) 70's 80's rock so the bass was what was missing when we moved to a condo. This plays well & I should mention gets the top end as well, I'm sitting here listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn & sounds great...I'm digging through my cd collection...

New to the forum, but need advice. Purchased an ISonic in November and the speakers began to chatter at ear-breaking levels and Polk technical was very prompt in asking it be returned (at my expense) and replaced within 7 business days. It arrived DOA. I have the "polkaudio" logo on the panel and it will not turn on.
Are others having technical problems with their iSonics? It's a great product when it operates, but two units in the first 3-4 months, the most recent of which didn't work when it was first plugged in, is disappointing to say the least.
Try again or is there a comparable alternative?

I have no issues with my ISONIC, it works great. I suggest you Contact Mr. Ken Swauger in Polk Customer Service, although I certainly understand your frustration the Polk Customer Service is top notch I would not forget to mention the replacement arrived DOA (although I am pretty sure you would not!!!)

Thanks for the advice. I'll give him a call this morning. It is a great sounding product and I hope to get one that works long-term.
