Well for the last 12 months, I have committed myself to losing weight and getting in shape. I have gone to the gym 6 days a week, cut out all fried foods and counted my calories. Since January of 2006, I have dropped 50 pounds of fat and gained 10 pounds of muscle. Tommorrow I head to Thailand for a 4 week vacation and some hard earned R&R. Man it will feel good to be on a beach! Bye Bye Alaska for a while!

Wow, congratulations. I need to have get that type of dedication. I don't need to lose weight (120 lbs ) but gain it in the form of muscle. Then the bullies won't take my lunch money anymore :p

Congrats! Been at it 6 months straight, 7 days a week myself. It's a love/hate thing, but I can't wait to get to that point of being able to do a triathalon again. I'm actually hitting Alaska as my treat vaction when I get there.

Way to go PMCAlaska! Great accomplishment. . . and sounds like you are going about it the right way. People that get the stomach stappled, etc. see immediate results but I can't see how that is as healthy as dieting properly and hitting the gym.
Enjoy Thailand!

good job!!
But be careful..I did the exact thing as you 3 -4 years ago and lost 60lbs..I'm 6'3 and went from 284 down to 225..
2 years later I was over 250 again...so I lost 20 more to get back down to 230...
jump ahead to now...Im back up over 260 again..:(
now i have to lose it AGAIN..
bottom line: Just because you get down to a nice weight, doesn't mean that you can't gain it back...
God I hate being fat..AGAIN:eek:

Losing weight and keeping it off is a lifestyle change, not just a diet. People get down to their goal weight and then just go back to their old habits, and that's where you have problems. I have the same problem usually, although I rarely make it down to my goal :)

I just ride my mountain bike, and I like it. It's definitely a lifestyle change. Don't really eat all that differently than I ever did before. I just exercise daily.

nice work pmc! Put swimming on your to-do list as well. You'll be surprised at the added benefits.

A month in Thailand?
Spend 2 weeks in Pattaya and 2 weeks in Phuket.
The last time I spent a week in Phuket, I stayed for a year.

good thing to commit to excercise. i'm always on/off...on/off. get burned out. but kudos to you for sticking to it. when you actually get visible results, it makes it so much easier to stay motivated.
