Sony SCD-555ES, modified by Matt Anker at sacdmods.com

With the addition of the Quads, I've been dying to add SACD to the Manncave rig. Obviously, a Tri-Vista wasn't in the budget but I was impressed with Mark's SCD-555ES on the occaisions I got to hear it. Then after seeing what Matt did with the SCD-CE775, I thought that a modded 555ES would be the thing to have.

Well, fast forward and now I have one. It sounds FABULOUS. Redbook playback (I've always thought to be the achilles heal of the Sony players) is breathtaking as well. I'm just getting familiar but right out of the gate, this is digital performance that I've not had in my rigs, ever.

I'm happier than a puppy with two peters.

Sounds great. Congratulations.

BTW... a two peter puppy would be a very unhappy soul since now he has two chances to be mistaken as his mother teats by the rest of the litter.

Yeah, you do (but I also need to come hear yours, I'll be travelling w/chloroform and a hand truck)

Yeah, I liquidated the Sunfire/Classe combo in favor of a Krell integrated and used the surplus to do the SAMA and the SACD player.

Troy,
I seem to remember an article, a long time ago, in Audio Amateur about the editor going to visit the Quad factory, in England. If you want I can go through the library and find it, if you'd like? There were lots of photos.

Yes, Ken, I would REALLY like that. I'm in full research mode about Quad and Peter Walker. HE is an interesting chap to say the least.

Here's a pic of the new player. You can also see the SAMA sitting on a slab of granite under the turntable.

Also note the Jesus head...
