I can't come due to a PT concert on October 6. But I've wanted to come to one of these things for years.

I've actually recommended that the Residents of a Blank Planet forum members have a gathering similar to one of these.

Anyone wanna split a room/car? Being under 25 they want to bend me over for car rentals(2-2.5x the norm)

Age 22
Sleeps whenever
Wakes up at anytime(early or late)

I really wanna get down there but somehow I misbudgeted a bit on my school books and and they ran me $600 instead of the $250 I was expecting and next semester my capstone course book is $500 alone I found out today while in the bookstone getting bent over there(Im taking 3 other classes as well) so I really gotta watch the budget.

If not, there is always next year when I'm graduated and have a real full time job(sounds amazing, i know)

Thanks but I'm afraid my schedule would be a little tight probably for you. I'd be coming in Friday night(stupid class) and need to be home by Monday sometime. Best for me would probably be to fly to GA, take a taxi to a hotel, then taxi back from the hotel to the airport when I'm ready to leave.

Renting a car under age 25 is like impossible, well not impossible just insanely expensive. The insurance they require is double the cost of the car in most cases.

Okay, if you do decide to go, there is usually a shuttle from the airport to the hotel; from there I would imagine you could call Ted's and have one of us pick you up at the hotel. My wife wouldn't attend Polkfest if it were the last event on earth... Why should she travel hundreds of miles to be around a bunch of drunken, audio geeks playing music too loud when she has to put with that stuff at home? According to her, Polkfest is a time to relax and enjoy...at home.

I've purchased airline tickets. I'm flying into Jacksonville, arriving around noon on Friday. I think it's going through Philly, I hope Joe's not on this plane;) I plan to get a car. I don't know where I'm staying yet. I am willing to be a designated driver as I rarely drink.

I'm flying back early Sunday morning, about 7:00 AM out of Jacksonville. I'm willing to take passengers.

Where's everyone staying? I'll probably go for a Hilton or Marriott property since I've got some point. I may have some Holiday Inn points also. I just don't like Holiday Inns. Most of them smell like hobo piss. They are all kind of shitty unless you go to a Crown Plaza.

There are some courses close to the casa in the 50 buck range that are fairly nice. Oak Grove comes to mind along with Sea Pines. Maybe the Jekyll Island courses.

demo speakers can be played on the upstairs Manley Rig, under no circumstances can the speakers be changed out with the Stingray On, it must be turned off BEFORE you can disconnect the speaker cable from the speaker of the integrated amp itself. Sorry do not mean to offend anybody but we have had gear ruined in the past.

Trey is designated as Official Rack Master for the Manley Tube Rig, no changes unless he is present and in charge of the change over. Just turn the Manley Off before doing anything.

OK, some of the guys are PM'ing about where folks are staying so please post up your hotel.

Whatever you want Anthony you got it. Just get me the sauseege...... I need some for the Low Country Boil as well as your peppers dish, it will be mixed with shrimp as far as the flavor use your best judgement.

Anthony is designated as Official Cook for the Fest.

I have a call into the Fire Marshall to get clearance on this issue, waiting for his call back to me.

Its getting really close now, I am of course jazzed about the Fest and all the great new members who are coming as well as seeing many of the broham's from past Fests.

The curse touched me a bit and we had to move out of the house for two weeks but its all better now.

OK Sal, I got you, glad to see your coming, its nice to add a name to the list...

Well guys its no secret my heart is and remains in two channel and we will have no less than five two channel rigs to Fest On......but I also recognize the importance of keeping up and trying new things aong with old things, although I have had a HT for years it was basically an afterthought of the Reel Time Rig which is really a two-channel rig that does HT, also the RTR is in the main living room area, what is called a Great Room in the South.

Back in 05 at the Doro-Polkfest we were invited to HQ and were frankly amazed with the musical sound of the Polk 65i in-walls. So I toyed with the idea of how to do this over the past 18 months or so. Then Polk introduced the LCi RTS=Reference Theatre Series in wall line-up, these speakers are voice matched to the LSi line for musicality, additionally, Polk had developed its own in floor sub line--passive woofers driven by the Polk SWA sub amp. The sub amp can drive a pair of woofers with 500 watts each.

I am very pleased to announce that the LCi-RTS system along with two of the SWA-200 subs will be available for you to demo at the FEST, although its been a bit of a scramble and a few cosmetic finishing touches may be undone you will get to experience the LCi-RTS in-walls in the new dedicated listening room set up just for this.

Please feel free to bring those sampler DVD and Concert DVD's which are your favorite's as I do not have a large selection, uh, well I have two, a Chicago at the Greek and Eagles Farewell tour. The rack will have a HD-DVD, no BR for now, and a Universal Player.

See all of you soon and if you want to come and hear some great music and gear and hang with a bunch of great members, enjoy the food and libations then get yourself to the PolkFest.....coming soon Oct. 5, 2007.

We will be having some excellent door prizes and grab bags donated by the membership, you'all come down now, you hear....

Sounds Awesome Ted. I will bring some CD's & DVD's. When I was at Joe's house I put in a Bjork cd and everyone except for Phill left the room!.

My WAF booked everything and I think she booked me at the cheapest hotel she could find. Some Hooker Hotel on Scranton Road. The Jameson Inn Brunswick (SJ)

I don't know what the (SJ) means, it on the reservation.

It's 4.6 mi from Ted's House.

The Comfort Inn is much closer, no hooker's but they have running water and you only have to share a bath with one room.

Kinda like Hostel.

ATTENTION:

Guys, we can use a 2-channel common ground amp to run the SDA-Rig or a set of mono-blocks that can be strapped. DAGLJAM6 (Dave) is bringing one but cannot get to the fest until early SAT. morning, I can do a work around with some of my stuff but if someone has something it will be used.

Now on a bit more serious note, Polk has donated an I-Sonic entertaiment system to the Fest, its brand spanking new still boxed up for the event. We will be raffling the I-Sonic with all proceeds going to the Githens Center in memory of Tiffany Grand. Raffle tickets will be 10.00 bucks a pop so bring some cash with you. I have an I-Sonic and its great, mine will be hooked to one of the "outdoor" rigs for all to hear.

If your still on the fence, get off and get to this Fest, we will all hoist one to our bud BDT and of course bro wish you were here.

No kidding. Have you seen the pic of Lake Norman something like 12' down? Holy Moly! Going to CF this past month, we passed a river that is usually 70 feet across, 40' deep was a trickling stream 3-4 feet across, 1/2 a foot deep. WTF???

The next time it rains, I'm going outside and dancing in the rain. Literally. It's at the point to where it's getting pretty serious. We may have to start relying on the national grid for power if there is no water to run the Catawba nuclear plant, if we haven't started already.

Even if it rains all is golden in Georgia, we have plenty of space. We have peaches, peanuts, belles and quality audio gear busting out all over, this is a chance to hear some stellar gear in one place that does not come around everyday, you need to get to this thing and meet the members, kick back and relax. Lets see what the Kids speakers are all about. but there will be lots of Polk Speakers featured including three pairs of SDA for those who have never experienced them you are in for a treat, the sleeper set are the 1C's......lots of vintage including a set Shack is bringing which are seldom seen or heard and of course the brand spanking new Lci lineup are breaking in right now make sure you spend some time with them.

The Mrs. presented me with an entire dining room table of goodies she has purchased for you to fill your bellies. She is the Executive Chef and my son who also digs all things Polk will be cooking for each of you.

I will be having dinner Friday, Brunch/lunch on Sat, dinner on Sat, and breakfest on Sunday. The good Captain Todd loaded his shrimp boat for us with a very nice looking catch of fresh Georgia white shrimp along with some of our local fish. There will be alternative's to the shell fish if that is a problem for anyone. Now this is the South, you are going to get Southern meals (well, with a little Yankee thrown in as I am from Chicago), but that means tasty fried, boiled, and grilled, damm suddenly I am hungry.......and the Mrs own breakfest creation of cheesy hash browns and eggs will flat out make your tongue slap your brains out. Oh yea and potato salad that can make a man downright weak in the knees.

come on down and have a ball.

Having already spent a couple of hours with Ted this evening, moving gear, getting the new HT ready, listening to a few tunes in the woodshed, and hearing what the menu (as in food) will be, I can safely say that anyone who could attend for even a couple of hours should show up! Sounds like rockin' soire!! Fate and timing have bit me on the ass again. As my son was stealing second base at his game last night, the catcher threw the ball high to second base. Second baseman jumps up to catch, son slides into second. baseman comes down.............. directly on his ankle!!... SNAP!!!! My son actually got up and called "time" to dust himself off and then he realised something was amiss! Spent most of the night in The ER. He's got this "cool" new cast to show his friends and crutches to whack his brother with. All in all, Doc says he'll be fine in a few weeks, strong kid and still growing. He's more bent out of shape about not being able to finish the season. Coach says he can still come to the rest of the games to lend a hand.
I was looking forward to meeting a lot y'all, feeding my face and audio addictions, but again, Fate has left fang marks on my butt-cheeks!

Guys --

I doubt they will all be posted ---

But, we have ROUGHLY, 5-600 photos and multiple videos.

;)

Been a blast so far, great food, great people, after we got rid of all the 1st day blues, we have been sailing ever since.

Jolidia kicked a Rega! Whole nine yards -

Gotta say, the inwall HT is stellar, very thunderous. Those inwall subs are the real deal.

My two favorite speakers have been the Amazings and the Taylos --- by far...

The SDA 1c's are a close third....

More to come -

I cut out a little early tonight....I just got back to the motel and it is ONLY 1:30. I did bring a couple of beers back for a nightcap... I need to watch all of the highlights of the Vols win over the Bulldogs on ESPN...it's good to be a Vol in GA when your team just got through kicking their ass!

What a great time. I've said it several times and I will say it again...shame on anyone who didn't attend who COULD have. Money shouldn't be an issue. I've spent 3 nights, (came early) drove 500 miles one way and my tab will be less than $200 for motel and gas. I actually spent money on a couple of rounds of golf and a nice seafood lunch...but they were extras. There was enough food, drinks, alcohol to feed 50 people for 2 days. If you couldn't have afforded a room, Motel la Reeltrouble1 had accomodations priced right...FREE!

The list of gear was awesome. Manley, Musical Fidelity, Dodd, Rega, SACD Mods, NAD, Carver, Taylo etc...etc... Polk was obviously well represented as always.

Ted's new HT with all Polk inwalls was absoulutely awesome. I spent more time in there than any other room. We watched "War of the Worlds" and if you are familiar with that DVD, the bass in a HT rig better be up to the task. Ted's WAS! He may need to check his foundation for cracks tomorrow. "Star Wars..The Return of the Sith", "The Lord of the Rings..Fellowship of the Rings" and several concert DVDs weren't too shabby either. It is a HT worthy of serious accolades

Ted's wife and two sons pitched in as perfect hosts and the representatives from Polk were the icing on the cake. Much alcohol was consumed but there is lots left over. (I did my best ;) )

Great hosts, great food and drink, great tunes and most of all great FRIENDS. See ya next year!

Badass.

About this time, I expect that someone is laid out on the kitchen table and F1 is standing over them with an exacto knife preparing to do an emergency liver transplant. Ted should be holding the IV bag full of Beam. THAT person has 30 mins after Jesse sews him up to suck it up, take a leak and do another shot.

THAT is how we roll at PF.

Just got home from what was a great weekend at Ted's casa. After we got everything fixed up on friday I spent some serious time with each of the rigs.

Ted's new HT is awsome and will shake the house. The SDA's sounded great as expected and the Carvers sounded oh so sweet. The Manley setup was very nice as well with the 1c's hooked up to them.

Ted and his wife and kids were great hosts and cooked up some the best food I ever had.

It was great seeing everyone again and meeting all the new polkies as well. It was a grand time and I look foward to next year already. Ted thank's for hosting and showing us a great time.

Well friends, chalk up another PF that blew the roof off. A huge thanks to Polk Audio for their continued support and to Ted's family for their hospitality.

Those of you who tried coming but for whatever personal reasons couldn't make it, we all hope that things are better for you soon.

Several times during the fest, I started to type a message but was sucked back into it. Ted's multi-level house was in constant use with music everywhere. We had a couple new faces this year and one member from way up north, whom I am sure will agree that the trip was worth it, eh.

Saturday morning and Sunday morning, most of my head was numb from sensory overload because Ted pulled out all the stops to ensure everyone had a good time.

Early on Friday afternoon, the folks from Polk Audio showed up. Al, Mark, and Monica brought along their great personalities and wealth of Polk knowledge, both past and present. They also dropped some vague hints of stuff on the horizon. What these products will be exactly is anyone's guess. As I suggested after chatting with Matt Polk at PF 2005, start setting some money aside or delay buying that new boat. Let's just make the observation that Matt has the oppurtunity to retire but hasn't. He 'still goes to work and does what he does' and is continuing with many projects. Don't be surprised if someday you want to flip your SVS. If your interest is peaked you know where you should have been.

Saturday, people showed up at all hours and gear was on everywhere. It's a good thing that Ted has a direct connection to the high voltage wires nearby because his house was sucking some serious current. The libations were flowing in full effect and Ted's family cooked a terrific meal of local shrimp, potatoes and corn. There was also the famous potato salad which I had for the first time and loved it. No point in telling why, you have to be here to find out that secret. We had a drawing for some cool prizes and there were many winners. Money raised was for a very noble cause and I believe we raised the bar from last year's raffle. The group photo was interesting, as it took awhile to gather everyone together from the multi-story house. What followed was more music, stories, movies in the HT rig and did I mention drinking? Contact frisbee football with the lid of a water cooler on the paved driveway began at 11PM and lasted for about an hour, followed by a food fight.

Some of us had an early start on Sunday morning and others dropped by for our final salute. There are no goodbye's at Polkfest because friendships made here means you will see each other again. This year, I decided to leave on Monday so if you'll excuse me I am going to go now and visit some of the nearby islands.

Let the dust settle a little bit and the showcase photos will be up as soon as they are ready.

I survived.

Well, Tom (treitz) and I played lead, follow, or get out of the way all the way home ;) --- just got home about a hour ago...

The time was great, Polk was well represented in all rooms. And Ted and his family are an amazing family and excellent host... also - very very good cooks.

We missed the big three, Mark - Russ - Anthony, gotta make it to the next one...

The Carvers are pretty amazing speakers, while not my cup of tea.

The Polk inwalls - are INCREDIBLE. Very impressive. Oddly enough, they probally had the most explosive bass I've heard from any HT rig. Absolutely amazing sounding setup with incredibly dynamics.

The Manley Stingray setup didn't see much play time from me, not sure anyone was chilling out to much up there -- but still a fantastic rig at the same time. The 1C's were pretty sweet.

Was kind of surprised the CRS speakers didnt get much play.

I gotta admit, the Amazings and the Taylos were easilly my favorites. No contest really.

Ah well, was an incredible time - it was great to see everyone, some new faces, some old faces, but always a pleasure. Thanks again Ted for opening up your home to me! I appreciate it greatly!

the Taylos still work - woooo ;)

Great summary Polk65! What else could be said?

Many thanks to RT and his lovely wife for hosting the event and providing us with the food, refreshment, hosplitality. . . I could go on and on. Very nice family Ted! I enjoyed your brothers and sons, we had some great laughs.

I had the opportunity to meet many of the fine Polkies I chatted with on the Forum. I have to say everyone was great. I felt like it was one large family reunion. It was great to meet all of you face to face and talk about music, audio equipment, life, love and the pursuit of happiness:D ;) It was a blast!

I could say so many nice things about everyone but I wouldn't know where to start and I wouldn't want to miss anyone. I can't wait until next year and hopefully see all of you again and some new folks too!

I hope everyone has a safe trip home.

Here's a little peak at the fine Southern boil we had for dinner yesterday. Shrimp, sausage, potatos and corn. Yummy!

Thanks again Ted!

Special thanks to Ted and his family for hosting a fine PolkFest. The Sounds, The Food, everything was top notch :) Meant some new members of the Forum, also seeing some new employees of Polk, which is always cool to talk tech while drinking a beer or two with them.

On a side note not many pictures from me this time around I felt others had it covered in this department. Hope to meet again some members I meant this time like around like Mike of Canada with his Aaaa in every sentence.

Ted's new Reeltime Theater was a treat and was very nice sounding, Polk in wall's RULE. The Carver amazing are just that Amazing, the Vinyl press was also well Amazing. The Manley was nice but.... there was others which just out classed that room so very little time in there. And besides Ted relatives well are quit entertaining on there own, was hard to spend a lot in a room far from them. ;)

I thought the Amazing MK IV's with the MF KW SACD player and the Rega 25 vinyl rig was outstanding. Some of Joe's vinyl left me with goose bumps and skid marks. But I also really enjoyed the SDA IC's with Jesse's modified Jolida and the Manley Stringray. I could get used to that setup real easy.

Trey's Tyler's sounded terrific!!! They were imaging like a mofo.
On Saturday, a pair of sub's were added to the Tyler setup to enhance the low end a little. The result was outstanding. BB King never sounded better.

The HT room frightened me. "Master and Commander", "War of the Worlds" I'm going to be having nightmares. Kudos to Polk for the new in wall LCI's and those sub's were blowing holes right through me.

Great stuff! A tremendous opportuity to listen to high quality gear with first class people!

I loved it!

Oh you arent kidding --

Once we got about about 4 or 5 feet farther back from the Tylers... everything just opened up....

The staging for them was expansive... was easilly 20 ft wide, with full height of the room used for most sequences... totally amazing...

Best I have ever heard them sound from a noise floor and seperation stand point...

And yes the HT rig is absolutely... horrifying. HAHA

The Amazings, oh so smooth...

I could never get myself involved with the Manley rig though...

Sid --

On the third pic, what are you guys doing to that Taylo?

It seems there was a Polkfest "Gremlin" causing much havoc on Friday. Something (no clue as to what) caused the solder to melt and separate on the Taylos, disabling the tweeter.

Vr3MxStyler2k3
10-08-2007, 11:13 AM
Yeah --

When we first plugged up the rig in the den... there was something going on where the tweeters would cut out of any speaker we plugged up to it...

We swapped ICs, power cables, speakers cables, sources, speakers, amps, preamps, we swapped oxygen supplies to the room and we still couldnt figure it out...

We still are not sure - but we think the Dodd preamps just didnt like the MIT cables...

But anyways, basically you plugged the speakers in, the tweeters would work, then cut out. I think the SDA's poly switches would switch, then after a bit would turn back on - hence the on and off problem we were having.

We plugged the Taylos in, they worked for a bit - then stopped working... was very worried about what had happened. So we took them up stairs, opened them up, turns out the positive connection to the tweeter network became desoldered... lol

Was an interesting couple hours...

It was truly an honor to host this year's fest. I was touched by the felllowship and commaradarie of the Club Members.

Many thanks to my family, friends, Polk HQ and the membership in whole, without whom it simply never would of happened. Although there are many things left to see, hear and say, here are a few RT1 Random Thoughts:

The curse continues.........Host for 08 beware
The Polk Nation Rocks........
There is an easy button.......useful against the curse....take note
Nearly 500 photo's to go through......please be patient
Polk HQ is great, many kudo's to Al, Monica, and Mark........
Russ A. will sip a few beers........
TLW was missed.......so was FA........ahhhhh images.....
The Furetech Flattner will Flatten records and other things.....
We found another Polk Chick who digs the music and the Fest....hint...Janis Joplin and Charlie Daniels......dance on Janice
Oh yea.....did I mention Club Polk Rocks.......

Most of all, I wish to Thank the people who committed the time, cash and thought to come and spend this short time with us. Several of our new members stepped up in a very large way at their first Fest. My family will long remember the Fest and great time we all had. Even the young hotty chicks the boys brought around told me us old guys simply Rock.......p.s. they think we have many Franklins.......hehehehehe

Finally for now, the attending members really touched me with their deep generosity during the Githen's Center charity raffle won by JanMike. We blew past last year's donation to the Githen's Center, So I am Throwing the Gauntlet Down for next year's host, I am sure as a collective group will touch the lives of the children at the Center, with our gift in loving memory of Tiffany Grand. I will be passing along the donation to George in the amount of 650.00. The Power of Club Polk goes far past audio.

Thank you to everyone, as I said in the beginning it was an honor and I was most happy to spend time with all my brohams, you guys can roll and this Club Rocks.

We had to operate a little bit. T.D. at the beginning of PF 2007. All was well for the duration of PF and the operation was a complete success. If I told you anymore, I'd have to kill you. Top secret stuff here. :D :p :D

Polkfest was a smashing success this go around [my first one] and could not have been hosted by a better person or person(s). Thanks to ol' RT1's entire family for helping to make PF such a blast to attend.

Much to say about Polkfest. I don't even know where to begin. Thanks to Polk headquarters for sending down Monica and Mark, what a wealth of knowledge. Al Ballard (VP of Marketing) came as well, but had to split due to an emergency on the homefront. He was there the first night, but unfortunately I did not get a chance to introduce myself to him because I was listening to all the great formats and rigs going. [More to follow on that note].

Food was awesome, the folks were great, knowledge was abound, good times in every room, outstanding comradery, and enough alcohol to get pretty darn ripped. Hearing Impaired told me that one eye [me] was pointed in one direction and the other one was pointed in another. He didn't know where to stand to where I could look at him. hehehe, I guess that's what ten hours of drankin' and good times will do to a man. :D

Anyhoo, when I have the time I will give a better breakdown of what went on at this year's Polkfest, but for now, all I have to say is to all that didn't attend, start saving $$$ so that you can attend next year's PF. I can tell you that with all of the gear that was there, I saved probably over 10K just because I now know what I don't want, and I now know what I do want and I don't have to blow the dough to purchase things I was interested in and have now had a chance to audition. Too cool. Come for the good times, come for the chance to put a face with the screenames, come for the education, come for the party, come to meet some high rollers from Polk corporate, most of all COME!!! Don't miss the next one.

I look forward to seeing all of you again at next year's gathering, as the pleasure was mine [this year] being able to meet a lot of the fine folks that are part of what makes this forum so great.

P.S. SHHhhhh........You didn't hear it from me, but next year we might have a chance to listen to a certain Mr. Matthew Polks rig in his house. Not to mention good things are on the horizon within the next couple of years at Polk. Stay tuned.....
