DB -- you're a Smith's fan, right? You know Johnny Marr now plays lead for Modest Mouse?
I'm stoked as well

I've been a Modest Mouse fan for ages... I've been a Smiths fan for even longer.
When this news hit, I was riding high for weeks. I couldn't have wished for a better collaboration... (except maybe Marr and the Moz:D )
I wish I could say the new single is great but I 'm not catching it yet, Modest mouse takes time usually for me to get, I hope this is the case with the single

Modest Mouse is really ifffy live. Sometimes they sound phenomenal and other times they sound like garbage. It really has to do with how much liquid courage Brock and the rest of the boys have chosen to taken in pre-show.

They also used to like to wank a lot rather than play the songs as people know them from their CD. I'm sure that changed when they got all contractural with Sony/Epic.

I've seen Isaac Brock so shat-faced on stage that he could barely stand-up. This is a band that has never denied their addictions. It makes for great song-writing. Performances, on the other hand...

I recently read this interview (which is pretty funny, btw) about Brock "cleaning up" and not partying as much...then a few days later he cuts himself up in South Dakota. Good stuff.

don't rock stars know that to much partying kills a person's career? or at the very least makes you look like Keith Richards, who is legally dead. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! :p :D

Well Brock has pretty much doubled in size since the band started.

the days of muscian's staying up for days and doing drugs and drinking is so 1970's... if a bad truely wants to be successful now, they have to stay somewhat clean and give up some of that shite. seriously, how much would it suck if Modest Mouse made it big, then a year later blow their career because of to much partying. I doubt Johnny Marr is going to stick around if Brock doesn't clean himself up.

I agree... but then again Brock is the exact opposite of Morrissey. So maybe there's a connection.

but Marr is not the partying rock star.. i don't think he ever was that type of musician.

You're right... Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce were. It does seem a bit destined for failure -- though not creatively.

The problem is that is how they were doing it for a decade before they ever made it big. Drugs and alcohol is what fuels a lot of these bands, for better or worse.
