Hello,
It looks as though the folks at Doc Bottlehead are getting close to being able to offer ultra high quality pre-recorded open reel tapes. Here is a link from the web site http://www.tapeproject.com/
I hope this is interesting!

$2,000 membership fee which includes 12 R2R tapes. None of the planned releases included any artists that I was familiar with. The concept is exciting, but this will be a very small, small niche. R2R has a great analog sound, better than vinyl. But is not very practical for most. There is a reason the R2R format NEVER became mainstream. It's difficult to use.
There are a lot of R2R users and tape collectors out there. I'm one of them, but this is hard to get really excited about.

Thanks for the info Ken. I recently pulled my r2r out of the closet and I'm in the process of resurrecting it.

Hello,
I'm glad the link was interesting. The David Oistrakh recording and the Malcom Arnold recording are already regarded as great sounding. I trust these guys to know great audio. You can just buy them one-at-a-time or pick six for a reduced price. Or, maybe a couple of people can go together get the subscription and split the tapes?
If anybody needs help getting a tape deck to play these, and other tapes, let me know and I'll try and offer some suggestions.
