Hi,

This is my first post on the forums. I'm trying for a 7.1 setup and currently I have RTi10's as my fronts, CSi3 as my center, JBL Sub12 and RTi6's and RTi4's remaining for my main surrounds and back surround.

My question is which speakers are best for the main surround and back surround? Should I put the better RTi6's at the mains and RTi4's at the back or the other way around? Does it matter? What are your thoughts and recommendations?

First of all, Welcome to the Forum! I would use the Rti6's on the main surround, and the Rti4's as the back surround.. The back surround does not have a lot of material sent to it. Not too many movies even have it yet.. Put the better/larger speakers on the main surround, for they will be utilized much more frequently..

Thanks Josh, that was originally what I was thinking too. I'll take your advice and go with that.

I would actually go with a pair FXi5/FXi3 as the main surrounds and the Rti4s as the back surround. You will get much more out of the FXi surrounds I think than the rtis.

Assuming you can afford them. If you can trade or sell either Rti to get the fxi you're better off. But, always use the better speaker as the main.

I would say try both ways and see which you like better. I found that when I had R15s and R20s for surrounds. I prefered the R15s on the sides and the R20s for the rears. The rear surrounds aren't used much, but when they are used I found the sound to be more natural with the larger speakers in the rear.

I was considering the FXi's before, but they were more expensive and I wasn't planning on spending any more. Anyway, I ended up ditching the RTi4's and stayed with a 5.1 setup. When I see a good deal on the FXi's I might consider getting those and put my RTi6's at the back.

I would definitely consider the FXi series, at least the 3s. I have the 3s and when I first seen them, I thought wow these things are big. I have seen the 5's and surely those things are huge. Either way you cant go wrong, they both sound very good.

I have Rti6 fronts, Rti4 surrounds, a Csi30 center, and a JBL PB-10 sub.

This set-up is new and I just tried it out with War of the Worlds. I am very pleased.

This was the first time I got that seamless feel from my HT and now I understand the term immersion.

Your speakers will do fine. If your like me, it is the best I can afford right now.
