Is it just me..or do the guys really stink so far? With the exception (maybe) of Jack Osbourne's semi-talented doppleganger and the JT look/sound alike, this is starting out to be least talented Idol yet. I hope the girls do better.....

I agree, the guys kinda stink. I thought the last guy was OK, the beatbox guy had potential. I really had high hopes for Sundance Head or whatever his name was, I don't understand why he's been so ****ty since his audition, which was fantastic.

That Indian kid should just admit he's a girl. I really hope he gets voted off soon, I get igged out just looking at "him."

Jack Osbourne guy will go far on attitude alone, a la Taylor Hicks.

The rest were forgettable to me.

BTW, this is season SIX, isn't it?

Sundance was SO good in the audition, and has just sucked more and more as time has gone on! I mean... Knights in White Satin?! Seriously?! How can you be that out of touch with what your strengths are.

I would have much rathered they had kept that tall black guy with the curly hair that was in the room with Sundance when they were picking the final 24. I thought he did much better, much more consistently.

the g/f couldn't agree with you more here. She loved that guy and he was cut to put on Sundance who yes was great in his audition but has slacked big time since. Guess it helps to have a famous singer for a father...

So far, the guys are eeeeeeehhhhhhh at best. The only ones who have good voices have no personality or stage presence. The ones who are better performers couldn't sing their way out of a Shatner movie.

LaKisha at the end gave me chills a few times........then after that she has this mousy little talking voice.........so contradictory, but an excellent performance......

definitely the year for the women. Hopefully by time there are 5-6 left, it'll be all women going by this so far. Nothing racial but the black girls this year are the only ones with real talent. The second to last girl was the only white girl with a set of pipes IMO. There was one other that could hit amazing notes but she had WEIRD notes down low and you couldn't understand her. The black girls held it down and I think we'll have another power voice win this year (unlike last year).

bobman1235
02-22-2007, 07:42 AM
Agree with Toxis completely. The first girl (with the short hair), the backup singer, and the very last girl were all incredible.

And not to be mean, but if people vote based on looks rather than talent at all.... I'll stop watching. That stupid brunette (Antonella) couldn't sing a lick, if she's still around next week, America is retarded.

I kinda dug the girl with the red highlights and the short black hair but I have to agree that I think one of the black girls will win this year.

Ok, this is the first time I have ever watched this show. In reality the only reason I decided to watch it this season was so that I would have something to talk to the women at work about. Call me shallow. *sigh*

Anyway, I am totally digging some of the music. All the jazz, blues, and R&B that have been sung by the ladies have caused me to research these original artists and is ending up costing me a fortune in new music. Just to mention a few of the artists CD's that I have bought lately include Aretha Franklin, Diana Krall, and Roberta Flack.

Heck if that contestant, Lakisha Jones, made a CD, I would buy that too.

Somebody stop me! Or...give me some more women artists that have some slow blue'sy music.

:D

Toxis
02-25-2007, 02:30 PM
^shallow. haha

LaKisha Jones did perform the hell out of that song but I'm not going to start tweaking her nipple just yet. I wanna see if she can sing other genres and if she has what it takes to win the competition. I vote no. Look at Mandisa last year. She was better than any of the competitors this year and (other than Kathrine) last year as well but her looks ended it for her. Oh well...

I was kidding about the "What's American Idol"...although I don't ever watch it. But, for what it's worth, the girl that got bumped for forgetting the words (Bailey Brown) is from Krum, TX...where I live. She's a talented girl. Too bad she didn't remember the words. Simon actually liked her! lol

Soooo about tonight. Where to start. I'll just list everyone and give my lil opinion. Don't worry, I had to go to the website to get their names because I don't know them all.

Nick Pedro - Go home! You're not good and you totally ruined a great song for me. Last year, Paris BELTED that song and made it hers. You karaoked it.

Jarod Cotter - Good voice, not a great performer and makes weird faces when he sings. He'll stick around but hopefully not long.

Chris Sligh - I love this kid. Great original voice and knows what he's capable of. Great show of range tonight as well. (plus, hot wife!)

Brandon Rogers - UGH! HORRIBLE! Hopefully he'll be going way. He's eeeeehhhh and has yet to impress me. Go home.

Blake Lewis - Nice voice, good performer, nice beat box/scat mix. He'll be around till the top 12.

Sanjaya Malakar - Man this kid has a phenomenal voice but no confidence or presence. Unfortunately, he'll be going home this week even though he's one of the smoothest male voices this year, he's just too young.

Sundance Head - Finally, showing off what he can do. Great voice but won't have what it takes to get into the final 4 unless something changes.

AJ Tabaldo - Maybe I don't get it but he's good but not great to me. His movements make me think he is a drag queen but his voice is decent at best.

Chris Richardson - Again, I don't get it. He sounds like he wants to sound and act like Justin Timberlake. He's ok but more of an impersonator than anything original.

Finally Phil Stacey - By far the best male on the show right now! Great voice, doesn't show nervousness, moves around and doesn't try to hard. He just gets on stage and does what he does. Definitely my pick of the year for best male vocal.

My picks to leave this week - Sanjaya and Brandon. (But i want Nick and Brandon to go).

That's how I see it! You guys?

Nice assesment! I agree. Chris Sligh - great voice, good entertainer and doesn't fit "the mold." Unfortunately, might work against him though.
Blake Lewis & Chris Richardson will be around. Phil Stacey was great. At least the guys picked it up a notch!

bobman1235
02-28-2007, 07:03 AM
I mostly agree with you Toxis, with some slight differences, here's my "rundown" :

1. Phil Stacey - Did he really sing "Missin' You"? I mean, seriously. Kind of a girly song, I really wasn't impressed at all, luckily for him there were way worse performances... plus he'll get the military vote. I like him, but just think the performance was mediocre.

2. Jared - "Let's Get it On' was kind of a cheesy song choice. I personally think his voice is kind of whiny. Especially on a song like that, that's so low, there really shoudln't be any whininess to your voice.

3. AJ Tabaldo - I just don't like this guy at all. I don't think he can sing, and he has the charisma of roadkill. Just all around awful.

4. Sanjaya - I can't say enough bad things about this kid. He's only made it this far because of that stupid "Vote for the Worst" website. Seriously, just looking at him makes me uncomfortable. What was that outfit? He looked like Michael Jackson, not someone you should aspire to be right now. He mumbled half of that silly "Steppin Out" song. Absolutely no emotion or force. And how do you dedicate a song to your grandmother who died when you were FIVE YEARS OLD?! I don't remember a damn thing from when I was five. My grandmother died when I was four; I'm sure she was a wonderful woman, but I certainly don't remember her. And I have plenty of living relatives I could dedicate my performances to. Seriously, this kid has to go.

5. Chris Sligh - Wow, did that kid marry up, huh? I guess there's hope for fat funny guys after all. I love the song "Trouble". He didn't do too bad with it. Coulda used a LITTLE more emotion, if you ask me. The whole thing about that song (and all of Ray LaMontagne's songs, really) is that they're very rough around the edges, and I thought this was a little too refined. Still one of my favorites of the night, though.

6. Nick Pedro - representin' Taunton (Massachusetts). Dedicating to your girlfriend is a little cheesy, hope it's serious buddy. Seems like a yearbook girlfriend shoutout to me - you'll be regretting it in a year when you break up. Anyways, "Fever" was kind of a goofy song. He just sounds like a lounge singer to me. His voice is cool and all, but, like I've said a few times, there's just no power or emotion behind it. Maybe I was spoiled by all the black girls with the soulful voices last week, but... c'mon man. Belt something out.

7. Blake - Virtual Insanity. Great song choice for him. He seemed to not be able to keep up with the song, but other than that, I actually disagree with Simon and think he did a good job with it. Even his goofy beatboxing kinda worked.

8. Brandon - I love how Simon called him out for really digging in on the sympathy vote. I mean, the point of dedication night is the sympathy vote, honestly, but you can't go overboard with it. Especially after singing TIME AFTER TIME. Holy God. If it weren't for AJ and Sanjaya, I would definitley want him gone just for that one gay song. Blech.

9. Chris Richardson - THe only song of the night I ddin't know - apparently it was a Jason Mraz song - but I thought it was pretty good. I really can't find fault with it at all. Not my cup of tea, but if people are into it, I can see them liking him.

10. Sundance Head - I like Sundance a lot, and I have no idea why. He hasn't been good since his audition... until tonight. He picked a great song for him (although, MAN is that song repetitive). But, I gotta say.... I'd tell American Idol to go screw if I had a newborn son at home whose first few months of life I was missing. Warped priorities much? Holy crap.

Sanjaya and AJ would be my two to go home if I had a choice.

I broke my "Idol" habit a couple seasons ago, but am hooked again.

That's a shame because then you missed last year and that group was VERY talented. At least 4 people got recording contracts out of last year's season and I'm told that a 5th is in the works right now. They deserved it. Last season was anybody's game and I think it's the reason the judges are so down on this year's group.

There's some strong talent in both groups, but more plentiful on the ladies' side.

Only about 3 people have the raw talent needed to win and they are all girls. Two guys, maybe three guys have the image that is needed but the talent isn't has good as the girls. Overall it doesn't matter though. This is a popularity contest and the only reason I watch it after the first few weeks of auditions is because the wife likes it so I tape to fast forward through the crappy parts (i.e.: most of the show). Otherwise I watch it for Simon. He's not so entertaining himself but watching the reactions to the singers who get the truth told to them is pretty amusing. Granted Simon lacks tact at times and tries too hard to be funny but he's pretty much spot on with the assessments. The contestants though, they get that look of being constipated while whatching somebody shoot thier dog. Then they try to be witty and so few actually are. Then Seacrest comes in with his tripe and they all hold up thier fingers showing us they know how to count and well...it's just amusing.

It's very rare when I disagree with Simon. In fact he usually just says exactly what the wife and I have been screaming at the television while Paula and Randy gush unabashedly over what was a dreadful performance.
Like, hate him or loathe him -- his assessments are generally right on the money.

And here's a drinking game for you...

Take a shot every time Randy starts out by saying "Yo Dawg, you know why I like you?"

Anyone know what Simon's sexual orientation is? The only reason I ask is that I have noticed this year, and in past years, there will be a good looking guy that Randy and Paula don't like that much and Simon will disagree and say that he likes him. And he will often comment about the guy being "good looking".

Plus, Haley? I literally said when she started singing "Who's she? There's a new addition?" Then Simon backed me up by saying "I don't remember your name." Thank you! Not saying the other girl would've gone farther but she's better than the Ms. America looking chick. Haley really makes me think pageant queen who's talent is singing. Sure she's good, but not that good. Go home!

Sanjaya has a voice, he just can't perform. Sundance needed to go home after his horrible rendition of Jeremy. Great singer, horrible performance and that's all America needed to not vote for him. Plus, Sanjaya has all the 14 year old girls rooting for him.

Thank you America for sending the no talent whore of Antonella Barba home. Thank you.

I honestly think Sanjaya's presence in the top 12 is due to the same issue they had with Jasmine Trias a few years ago. As you may recall she was the underdog/under-talented Hawaiian girl that kept squeaking by each week. Even Simon made the comment that it was her home state's and families' votes keeping her alive. If I had to guess Sanjaya is riding on the same wave of votes. Except this time it is a large extended family and an entire race of individuals that are viewed as underdogs in this country.

Meh, there was a lot of criticism going into last night about how you can juxtapose a night of charity with a night of booting someone off, so I think it was more in response to that than in response to who got voted off. There have been plenty of seasons where the "best" was kicked off before the finals. Hell, even last year. Between Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee? I'll choose no one, thanks.

Early B.

C'mon folks, it's television. This stuff is scripted. Gotta keep things fresh for the ratings. Now everyone's gonna be watching the show next week.

BTW -- Jordin should win the whole thing. She's a triple threat -- talent, looks, and personality. Besides, she's young and malleable, a producer's and marketer's dream. I didn't see the show last night, but I don't believe she got the least amount of votes, either.

No, Melinda had a good voice. And I don't have a thing wrong with my hearing... and my opinion is backed by a professionally trained vocalist who lives in my house... Jordin continually went off key, and had poor control of her voice... that's why I'm surprised she won. Never once, in all the songs I've heard her sing, did she blow me away...

But to each their own... and that is my humble but deadly accurate opinion... :D

Ha! My DVR cut out as they were opening the envelope. Way to go overtime, Fox!

I liked Jordin, I think Nightly and his trained vocalist are wrong on this one. There were some "trained vocalists" during the auditions too, if I remember... ;)

Melinda definitely had the better voice, but Jordin had more star power, and a bit more relatability for the audience, which is what matters I guess.

The winner is really irrelevant though, as shown by recent years, early castoffs often do better than the "winner".

Not surprisingly, Jordin won. She deserved to win. Of course, Melinda had more talent, but that's not enough to win. I'm happy for Jordin because she's young and will improve greatly over the next few years. However, her first CD will sound like ****. Not her fault, just the sound of commercialism.

Kinda liked Gladys Knight's performance, too. After nearly 50 years in the business, she can still sing circles around these youngsters.

Unfortunately, my wife was addicted to this show and I was occasionally in a position to actually have to listen to some of them sing. More often than not they were singing something they had no business trying, their arrangement sucked and they were not very good. I don't own anything recorded by an "American Idol" participant...and seriously doubt I ever will.

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaa...............neither do I, however, most pop singers have a half tone deviation either way from perfect pitch, enter Alison Krausse.

I saw Tony Bennet sing, sure he was not perfect, but he still has IT, whatever, IT is. For the whole show of 2.5 hours I tivoed it and watched 10 minutes, still missed who won as the tivo cut off like some others here mentioned.

Wow you sure like to assume don't ya buddy?

I'm going to branch out here and assume, just like you, that you weren't meaning Her as in the girl in my house, when you called her a loser...

And as Shack said, Jordin's gonna suck for a while, and maybe she'll grow into her voice sometime... maybe. (Ok, Early said this not Shack... my bad.)

But you are right, the runner up's have had better record success than the winners of these things...

I thought Jordin was terrific, especially when she launched into her upper registry. Her version of "Broken Wing" gave me major goosebumps. & I don't recall any of the judges taking her to task for being off key. That chick can sing and she'll only get better.

Though I loved Melinda's voice and, for a while, wanted her to win, I began to find her voice a bit boring, with every song sounding the same.

Reading the comments here, you sure see how we all have different opinions! Different strokes...!

Jordin should at least get better and mature I suppose. I thought Blake was more entertaining and fun to watch. Right now if any of them were singing locally I would only step out of the house to see Melinda. I did download Daughtry's album from I tunes and it aint half bad for a first effort. It has some great running songs that make me go faster!:)

Here's (http://www.queersighted.com/2007/05/23/american-idols-very-brady-finale-jordin-fit-the-suit)a link for some food for thought:

I also like that the week Jordin was voted off, they suddenly decided that nobody would get booted, due to "Charity week." I call BS!

From my wife's blog:

And, since this is my site and I can say what I want, I have to
complain about this last American Idol winner. Melinda was the best singer,
hands down. She was always in tune, and everything she sang sounded
good. Lakisha was the 2nd best, and Jordin was the 3rd. I've felt
anti-jordin for a while now because all everybody could do was harp about
her being 'only 17'. As if that's a good reason for her to be the
winner. She was much pitchier than the other 2 girls, and 'shouted' more
than Lakisha ever did.
I was hoping Blake would win. I think he's a much better performer,
even if his vocal skills weren't top-notch. I believe he will have a
much more successful career than Jordin, in spite of losing to her.
I'm sure you were all dying to know my thoughts on the matter.
So there you have them.

Chris Daughtry anyone? didn't he finish 4th...

I'm guessing he is the one laughing all the way to the bank now..

They never said Jordin was voted off or that she was the least vote getter. She was just the last one to be told she was safe.

I didn't watch that episode live, I had it on DVR, so I actually read everyone's comments about how they couldn't believe JOrdin was the lowest points-getter before actually watching the episode. If you actually watch the episode, they never say who got what points. They just tell everyone, in some order, that they're safe. So you can't assume that just because she was told last that she would have been voted off. Just sayin'.

While I agree that the producers have favorites and do everything they can to skew the results in their favor, they still can't make up the results. There's no way they wanted Taylor to win last year, the guy is a complete flop

When did this happen? Charity night, did they say Jordin had the least amount of votes? Or are you assuming that since she was the last that night to go up to Ryan and "not get sent hime" that she had the least amount of votes?

Actually, I think this just proved that your sound system sucks and it's time to upgrade! ;)

Also, how many contestants on the show were there because their "professional" vocal coach said they were "awesome"? At least what? 10-12 every run through of the tryouts?

And uhh, WTH is up with that link you posted?

While I agree that the producers have favorites and do everything they can to skew the results in their favor, they still can't make up the results.

Yes, the producers can make up whatever results they desire. That's what producers do -- produce results.

Let's face it -- Clive Davis determines the winner each year. The audience has little say in the matter. This year, Jordin simply has more long term money making potential than Blake. The beat box routine is old and stale.

That's blatantly not true. Listen, I'm not one to say that reality TV doesn't lie - I'm not as stupid as I look, sound, or act - but this whole "Idol completely fabricates the results" agenda that you and your ilk love to tout is blatantly ludicrous. If it were true, huge bombs like Taylor Hicks wouldn't win. Clive Davis and his minions didn't become rich by being blind to what sells. I don't think there was a person in America who thought that Taylor Hicks was a marketable entity. So why did he win last year? Idol could have made way more money off of half a dozen contestants that season. He won because America is stupid, and voted for him.

Millions of dollars go into these shows, so I have no doubt that Idol uses all of their marketing and persuasive genius to try and push for and trick people into liking whatever contestant they find most marketable, but in the end.... I still think there's real votes.

Besides, by your logic, what would the producers have to gain by making up results? Isn't Idol essentially a popularity contest? And... doesn't popularity (shown by voting) predict popularity in the marketplace? It's like a 30 million person focus group.

Someone from MA making this statement does not surprise me the least bit. You basically called everyone on this forum from the USA stupid. I'll assume you meant only those that voted for him but you need to refrain from making senseless general statements like that for those of us that have had it with anyone that has nothing good to say about this country.
