I have a CS250S center channel that needs its tweeter replaced-- the SL5501 (polymer dome). I also have a pair of RT5s that use the same tweeter. Is replacing (all three) SL5501s with the trilaminate SL6501 an option (assuming I could find some), or is the cabinet/crossover design related to the tweeter characteristics to the extent that the performance will suffer? just curious.

I'm pretty sure the cs275 was a tri-laminate upgrade based on the cs250. Dimensions and mid-woofers are the same. Check the schematics (http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38755) for the cs250 and cs275. The crossover change is something you or a friend can do providing availability.

Give Helen at customer service a call to verify this and if there is a new part substitution.

The RT5 tweeter is a phenominal tweeter and I would not recomend changing it unless you are forced to due to it blowing.

yeah... tough call. Right now I have a pair of RT5s I've had for years... an RT7 pair I just picked up locally and a CS250S in need of a new tweeter. So, the choices seem to be toward a SL5501-based system (rt5 poly tweeter), and a SL6501-based system (trilam, RT7). If the CS250S can indeed take either, then it really comes down to personal preference, as the surrounds in the RT series have come in both flavors.

Listen to some favorite albums for a few weeks with one style tweeter and then the other with the same material. Make some notes of what you hear to help with the comparison. Since it's subjective, let your ears tell you what to do.
