I just received these today.
I bought a set for bi-amping my SDA's
I was using an electronic crossover that has very low distortion, and sn/100db.
The highs were clear before at normal levels. They kinda sounded like they were breaking up/grainy at high levels. The mid bass response was good. The crossover also added some noise when not playing music. My system uses rca's, not balanced.
There are no crossovers in my speakers. The amps are directly hooked up to the drivers. No caps, no inductors, and no resistors!
I hooked up these in-line crossovers between the pre outs and the amps. The sound is very smooth now on the tweets, and no adverse effects on the low pass either(2500). The only draw back is that you lose a little of the gain from the preamp. I used to reach maximum volume at -5, and now I reach max at 0 with an HK as the preamp. I don't know what the actual difference would be at the same reference point yet, but I will test it later with a db meter.
I did however do a listening test with some SACD's. Billy Joel Stranger, Dire Straits BIA, and Allison Krause. To me the best indication of quality speakers is the human voice. AK sounded so sweet with her prayer song on disk 2 track 11. The dynamics were fully there with DS money for nothing(I don't really like that song much, but it is a good test). All in all I highly recommend using these in-line crossovers. At $25 a pair they are a steal.
