Monster Speakers

Has anyone actually heard these speakers? I've been looking for reviews and articles but theres not alot out there.

Overpriced and "Bright " as hell I heard them before and it did'nt float my boat, Stick with polks and you will get better sound.

yeah I like my polks but I was interested that Monster decided to sell speakers. And that they got thx certification that surprised me. But not alot of reviews so I figured there must be something up

to me, THX certification doesn't mean that much. Since Dolby Digital and DTS are both Lossy compression techniques, how good can any standard that references off of Lossy audio be? It's like saying these speakers are certified to reproduce faithfullly MP3s. Doesn't mean much does it?

My 4 year old $199 Klipsch computer speakers are THX certified. They sound no where near as good as my Polkies or Energy speakers when connected to the same receiver, neither of which is THX certified.

Receivers that are THX certified are more meaningful. That means it's more protected from bloated numbers.

LOL I guess that says it all eh :) oh well. I'm actually looking at replacing my rti set up with one I sold a custoemr and think sounds a little better.

Has any one noticed though when you gointo the theaters that it is overly bright ....or is it just me......? so why not monster thx speakers have them be overly bright hahaha

I don't go to many movies these days, and, when I do, they are usually chick flicks with the little lady.

But, when I saw Bond, I made a concious decision to listen to the sound critically, as I would with my own system, to see which one I felt sounded better.

I occassionally think my speakers sound somewhat bright with gunshots, breaking glass, etc. But, I found the theater sound to be even brighter with regards to the same effects. . . all in all, it made me feel better about my setup. Or, I guess those types of sounds are "bright" anyway.

Monster THX speakers. . . that combines two of the things that seem to be the most overpriced / overvalued things in audio. I'd love to see what type of mark-up they have on those speakers.

In my humble opinion, I think the Monster Speakers are attractive and they sounded pretty good to me. As a disclaimer, I tend to favor bright sounding speakers.

I dont have much to add to the THX comments. THX certification means nothing to me - its kind of like Jeep's "Trail Rated" vehicles - whatever.

Finally, while I think they are attractive speakers with a sound that I like, I will say that they are as over-priced as any Monster product available. That is, you can find other speaker brands that sound just as good and look just as nice for less money.

Well, I guess I'll put in my .02 about Monster. I hooked up monster speaker wire and I think it makes a difference. I also hooked up a Monster THX fiber optic cable ultra cable for DVD and I feel it made a difference. Now before you Monster haters start hooting and hollering, Monster is the only cable I've heard except for junk from Walmart. So I cannot be biased. Or can I?

The sound / quality of their products isn't as "bashed" as their value. Their products do some of what is claimed, but not nearly enough to justify the prices they charge.

I would never buy another Monster product at Best Buy, CC, etc. . . however, I have often bought Monster cables online from ebay, etc. If you can get a 12' Monster subwoofer cable for $2, why not get it. . . but, it's hard to swallow the $99.99 retail price for that same cable.

IIRC there are different (very different) THX standards for multimedia speakers and HT speakers. Still, I agree that I couldn't care less whether a product has the THX logo on it. If anything I consider it a turnoff since companies have to pay to get their products tested/certified, and you know that cost gets passed on to the consumer along the way. Anyways, I've got a THX-stamped Parasound Halo A21 on the way - we'll see how it does against the PS Audio HCA2.

I'll bet Monster contracted someone to design and/or build those speakers - I wonder who. Either way they'd better be good, since they're priced pretty close to Polk LSi. At least it looks like they put a little thought into cabinet design beyond the traditional straight box - I'd like to see that become more common at the lower price points.

What I don't get is some of the people bashing monster's lack of value who drop several hundereds of dollars (or more) on silver-plated boutique cables :D

Surely, the markup on monster cable is ridiculous, but that can easily be eclipsed by much of audio's uber-high end cable industry.

True. There are many, many examples of less or equal "value" (or lack there of), especially in high end audio. $1k platinum plated, cryogenically frozen cable risers and such : )

But, since they are marketing everywhere and more ubiquitous than obscure uber-high end products, Monster is a much easier topic.

The only way that's possible is if the walmart cables are so bad that it's dropping bits. BTW, this is next to impossible
