Rotel Amps

I'm back at it again, this time wanting to play around with amplification. Can anyone vouch for the Rotel 1092, Im thinking of moving the outlaws out for the Rotel. I would love to amp up the center also, does Rotel offer a 3 channel amp with this kind of power? Im wondering how the Rotel compares to the Outlaw Amps, thanks in advance guys.

Having owned Rotel I can tell you that they make a very solid product. I owned the RB-1080 at one time and was very satisfied and noticed a large improvement when I added that amp to the front end. I have never owned Outlaw so I cannot compare the two.

Rotel did make a 3-CH amp, the RB-993. 200 wpc. Very hard to find. There is one listed on Audiogon.

Here is a web site that has a Rotel section. These folks live and breathe Rotel and would be able to answer any questions. The RB-1092 has received a lot of good reviews.

You got that right about that site. Those people are Rotel nuts. I picked up a 991 2 channel and indeed it is a fine amp. I am using it for my sides and although it is limited it still sounds great when it kicks in.

after seeing the price i may consider the outlaw 7200, any comparisons with the two or anyone with the 7200 have any good info on it?

The RB993 on Audiogon is priced high. Bluebook is $630.
The RB991 (also 3 CH) has a bluebook value of $500.
You can post on the HTGuide site if you want one, but they are rare.

I listened to the 1077 & 1092, I know the attraction of the small lightweight digital amps. I was not impressed with the 100wpc 1077 when compared to the 200wpc analog Rotel. However, that changed when I compared the 1092 with the 1080! All the details that were missing from the 1077 were there with the 1092. But then you have to contend with the price.

Outlaw is good bang for the buck gear & you can't go wrong with it! You might also be on the look out for used Sunfire gear on Audiogon. Their 5 channel amps weigh less than 50lbs!

I know cause I have one myself. I got it just because I could manage it physically & the extra 200 wpc I got with it was a bonus!

Rotel are fantastic amps, but they have a tendency to be bright. I have owned the 981 and 991. I still have the 991 on my 2 channel rig with LSi9's. The 991 sounds fantastic with the LSi's, but was overly bright with the RTi10's. The 981 sounded decent, but still bright with the RTi's, and quite honestly, did not have the balls to drive the LSi's to their full potential. The 991 drives the 9's to their limits without breaking a sweat.

Totally agree. I have owned both and IMO the broghtness would be in the RTi's.

I agree, the brightness is with the RTi's. But the Rotel just compounds it. The NAD2200 I used on the 10s did not have the same bright edge. Of course, it also was not as smooth as the Rotel.

Im using outlaw monos now on the 12s, I just been thinking about amping the rest of my setup. I saw how much the 1092 pushes and was very surprsied. My Sony does a good job driving everything else but I think I will get better sound with a 7 channnel amp, perhaps the 7200 from Outlaw or something from Rotel, Adcom, Parasound. Any other recommendations guys?

I love having all of my speakers amped. The backs really came to life just like the fronts did when they were amped.

As I suggested check out Audiogon for a used Sunfire.

I own a RB-1092 amp and RC-1090 pre. These replace an RB-1070 amp and RC-1070 pre (I still have these). I was very hesitant at first moving to Class D amplification but am not looking back now. The soundstage and headroom improved greatly with the RB-1092. IF my shelf could have held up the wt of the RB-1090 I would have gone that route, but to get a 500w/ch ICE powered Class D that weighs less than 30 lbs (vs 90 lbs for the RB-1090) was a no brainer for me.

If you get any kind of brand of amp, normally is it better to get the same brand of pre/pro? Or does it matter for the sound? And should you try to get a DVD player and/or CD player of the same brand also?
