View Full Version : RTi100 v. RTi70

I recently made the plunge and bought a complete set of Polks for a 5.1 Home Theater setup. RTi100 for the front, CSi40 center, FXi50 surrounds, and a PSW450 sub. All this is driven by a Denon 3802.
I live in a decent sized apartment and made the decisons on the above equipment because I don't want to repurchase everything again when I move into a house in 1 or 2 years at the most. My eventual listening space will be better than what I have now, so that is important to keep in mind.
My question has to do with my choice of the front speakers. What I hear from the RTi100s sounds incredible, but I'm wondering since I already have a PSW450, would it be better to switch to the RTi70s? Do the dual 6.5" driver add to the midrange? Is sacrificing the powered bass worth it to increase the midrange?
And I haven't bi-wired yet, but I will be doing that soon. Will that change the equation?
Thanks for your advice and opinions!

As a owner of Powered towers....aviod them like the plague.
The Rti70's are nice and 2 bills less.Put the coin into better wire for the 70's like Bi wires.use the same for the center.

Thanks -- I'll keep this in mind as I play with things over the next few days. Good thing I have a 30 day return policy.
Mantis, why do you say that the powered towers should be "avoided like the plague?" What about them don't you like? Why did you keep yours if you don't like them?

I'm not keeping mine,
there up for sale.
I could go on and on about the Love Hate relationship with them over the years I have owned them.
If you do a search you will come up with many posts I made about them both ways.
If you can't find what your looking for I will post again.

Nah, just business as usual. If we all got along 100% of the time it would be really boring in here.

Another vote for the Rti70s
I prefer these speakers hands down over the 100s
I do think there is a better quality midrange, not to mention they get pretty sweet low end response by themselves.

OK, I'm going to make the switch -- but now that brings up another question. After I make the switch my system will be:
Denon 3802
RTi70 for the front
CSi40 center
FXi50 surrounds
PSW450 sub
Any opinion on switching the PSW450 for a 650? The money I'm getting back for the RTi100s is about the same as what it would cost to buy the 650 if I traded in the 450 as well.
Any thoughts?

Definitely do it! The 650 with the RTi70's should be a sweet setup.

I am *so* swayed by peer pressure! :) I'll be testing out these different combinations this weekend and making the switch most likely. Just called my local sales guy and set up a time with him tomorrow.

Thank you everyone, especially mantis and nascarman. Everything arrived last night and it sounds so sweet.
The RTi70 PSW650 combo is perfect.
