I'd like to upgrade my HK235 eventually to an Adcom Pre. The HK's are respectfully rated at 2volts, and My Adcom GFA requires 2 Volts for max volume. I was playing around with 2 channel again last night using my Adcom GFP-500 and the high volume listening was better. One thing that I read is that pre-out can clip? Please don't laugh at me. I thought the only way to mess up with a pre was to over drive with them. I have lost a few tweeters recently, and just blame it on the age of them. Do you think it is probable that the pre was clipping was the culprit? I am bi amping my system so the next question is does splitting the outputs to drive 2 amps cause the pre to clip earlier?
Thanks Ben

Yes a preamp stage can clip just like an amp if the input level is too high. Why do you think the pre is clipping? Are you hearing excessive distortion?

Maybe I misunderstand your post,, but if you are smoking the tweets, would'nt that be a result of amplifier clipping?

I have 150 watts (Adcom) clean going to the tweets, and the distortion lights never ever flickered

I should add that it would be unusual for the preamp to expierience overload unless you are using a source (CDP,DVDplayer)that puts out substantially more than the standard 2 volts.
